A Landlubber's Mini-Guide to Grand Cayman Explore the land side... Grand Cayman is one of the premiere Caribbean destinations for SCUBA divers, snorkelers and beach lovers, who are drawn to the island's crystal clear waters and white sand beaches. They are wonderful and worth your time, but let's face it, not everyone is a watersports enthusiast. There are tourists who want to "get into" a place, filling their visit with culture, history, natural beauty, and all the things that make their destination unique. This article is for those travelers, who might enjoy the beach but want a bit more...and for divers and snorkelers who've either had enough diving/snorkeling, too much sun, or just don't want to miss anything on their favorite island! Small but worth a visit is the Cayman Islands National Museum in George Town. This museum opened in 1990 in the Old Courts Building, has survived hurricanes and storms and has served many purposes through its existence, including town jail, courthouse, Sunday worship meeting hall and as a spot to hold local dances. Inside, you'll find exhibits on the cultural history of the early people of the Cayman Islands, and the Natural History exhibit, whose wonderful three-dimensional map of the Cayman Islands shows the island from above and below the sea. Walk through displays of natural habitats you'll find on the islands and see the laser presentation of the underwater world. Don't forget the museum shop (have a look at the local jewelry) and you can pick up a cool drink at the cafe before moving on.

The 2003 Tournament
Mark your calendars for the 2003 Cayman International Sevens. The organisers, Cayman Rugby Enthusiasts Ltd., are planning some ambitious changes to both the structure of the tournament and the dates.
Due to the high cost of transatlantic travel during the month of August, the dates of the Tournament for 2003 are to be brought forward to the middle of June. The 2003 tournament will be held on June 20 th and 21 st . The supporters tournament will take place on the 19 th June prior to the International Sevens. Customarily, May and June are popular months for rugby clubs in the Northern Hemisphere to undertake post - season tours and the organisers will be actively working with the Cayman Department of Tourism in London and leading sports tour operators in the UK to promote both the International Sevens Tournament and a supporters competition. June, is also popular month for seven a-side rugby in North America and the organisers envisage attracting many rugby teams from both the US and Canada, not only to participate in the Supporters Tournament but also to enjoy a fabulous vacation in Cayman and cheer on one or two of the leading US and Canadian sevens teams which will be participating in the International Tournament.

Tour Guide » Language
English is our official language, with a distinctive "brogue" reflecting heritage of Welsh, Scottish and English ancestor's still distinguishing the speech of the Caymanian people. The number of Jamaican residents in the work force means the Jamaican patois and accompanying heavier accent is also common. Spanish , particularly regional dialects of Central America and Cuba, is also widely spoken.

At first glance, it's just the start of another day in paradise. The sun rises brilliantly, the breeze rustles through the fronds of silver thatch palms, and a flock of Grand Cayman parrots alight on a mango tree. A green turtle slides off to sea, skimming over the reefs, after depositing her eggs in the sand. The white and purple petals of a wild banana orchid flutter from their perch on a Mastic Trail mahogany tree, and a clutch of baby blue iguana scuttle into the underbrush, ready for anything.
At second glance, such seemingly casual occurrences are actually hard-won victories. Were it not for the efforts of an army of volunteers, bolstered by two decades of far-sighted legislation and a government committed to education and preservation, the Cayman Islands might be "just another pretty face" of beaches and hotels-minus the endowments that make them one-of-a-kind in natural history and heritage. The Caymanian love of nature, coupled with inherent sensibility and economic vision, has caused the Cayman Islands to lead the way in establishing policy for eco-tourism development.

The name of the Pan American Sanitary Bureau remained unchanged.
