"At the end, what really matters - and is a good measure of a past life - is who you loved and who loved you. The circle of love is everything." From a speech by Healy, M.D. (Click on this image to hear a personal message.) I've corresponded with many wonderful people from all over the world and the two most frequent topics people write about are penpals and networking. All of us need someone we can talk with; someone who really understands what we feel and why, the problems we face, and the importance of just being able to have someone listen. It's also important to have a broad base of knowledge and a good source of practical solutions to common problems, particularly if you're disabled or if you're the parent of a disabled person. So, after many, many requests here's an opportunity to get in touch with others who want to share themselves and their experience. This is a rather informal page and the information listed for the people below is not in any particular format; nor is it intended to be as complete as some might want. But then, isn't mutual exploration part of the fun of corresponding? A couple of things to keep in mine, though. First, most of the people listed either have CP or are parents of a child with CP. Also, those who have indicated a need for more information on raising a disabled child or solving a particular problem are probably looking for more than simply writing back and forth. Please be considerate of that. If you want to write to someone listed simply send them an email. It might be a good idea to also let them know how you got their email address! If you would like to be listed on this page, whether you just want some penpals or are looking for some answers, simply

Welcome to Cincinnati Hyperbarics.
We'd like to tell you a little bit about us, our center and services, and also provide you with some information about our hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Cincinnati Hyperbarics was founded by Dr. Ted Cole . Dr. Cole has been in practice for over 12 years, and is at the forefront of innovative and effective medical treatments. Dr. Cole has used alternative medicine since the opening of his office, and has a unique blend of both orthodox and alternative approaches. After a great deal of research and study, hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been added as an extension to the already large number of therapies available to his patients. Dr. Cole knows that hyperbaric oxygen is best used as a part of an overall approach to one's health care, and should not be viewed as a "miracle cure" for every condition. Cincinnati Hyperbarics is owned and operated by Dr. Cole as a freestanding center. Unlike many other facilities, it is not operated by technicians or a "medical director" that is rarely, if ever, actually on the premises of the hyperbaric facility. At Cincinnati Hyperbarics, Dr. Cole evaluates every patient. He designs and supervises every patient's course of therapy. He monitors every patient's progress, and is able to provide other treatments to accelerate and enhance each person's recovery. By using his vast experience and knowledge to combine hyperbaric oxygen with other therapies, he is able to ensure that you get the type of care that is best for you and your particular condition.

The Cerebral Palsy Association of British Columbia (CPABC) is an independent, not-for-profit Association led by a Volunteer Board of Directors. The CPABC was founded in 1954 by a group of concerned parents who wanted the best possible opportunities for their children living with Cerebral Palsy (CP). We have evolved into a provincial Association that supports individuals, families, caregivers, professionals, students and other organizations whose lives are touched by Cerebral Palsy. Today, there are between 8000 - 12000 people across the province of British Columbia who live with Cerebral Palsy. Our funding comes from private donations from individuals and service organizations, membership fees, and private grants. We welcome opportunities to partner with organizations and businesses in order to increase awareness and support for those living with Cerebral Palsy. To Top

And is available for people with cerebal-palsey and other medical conditions. The broad term "cerebral palsy" (C.P.) means damage to the brain resulting in inability to control muscles normally. The term cerebral refers to the brain and palsy (paralysis) is used to express the central nervous system damage which results in many gra des and kinds of muscle and sensory difficulties. The words Cerebral Palsy are used to describe a medical condition that affects control of the muscles. Cerebral means anything in the head and palsy refers to anything wrong with control of the muscles or joints in the body. If someone has cerebral palsy it means that because of an injury to their brain (that's the cerebral part) they are not able to use some of the muscles in their body in the normal way (that's the palsy part). Children who have cerebral palsy, or CP, may not be able to walk, talk, eat or play in the same ways as most other kids.
It is important to know that CP is not a disease or illness. It isn't contagious and it doesn't get worse, but it is not something you "grow out of." Children who have CP will have it all their lives.

    79. When Your Child Has Cerebral Palsy
cerebral palsy is one of the most common congenital disorders. About 5%of premature infants will have the disorder. What Is cerebral palsy?
    http://kidshealth.org/parent/medical/brain/cerebral_palsy.html

    KidsHealth
    Parents Medical Problems
Cerebral palsy (CP) is one of the most common congenital (existing before birth or at birth) disorders of childhood. There are 10,000 new cases of cerebral palsy diagnosed each year in the United States, and for every 2,000 babies born in the United States, five have cerebral palsy. Approximately 5% of premature infants are diagnosed with this condition, and the overall incidence of cerebral palsy is rising because premature babies who once would have died are surviving. A preemie's risk of cerebral palsy is 50 times higher than that of a full-term baby. The most premature infants (less than 26 weeks gestation) have a risk as high as 15% of developing cerebral palsy. What Is Cerebral Palsy?
Cerebral palsy is a disorder that affects motor skills (the ability to move in a coordinated and purposeful way), muscle tone, and muscle movement. Under usual circumstances, people learn to move their muscles in a coordinated and smooth way, although simple motions, even standing still, require a complicated interaction of competing muscles and nerves. Because a child who has cerebral palsy has difficulty controlling or coordinating his muscles, even these simple movements are difficult. Other problems children with cerebral palsy may develop include eating difficulties, bladder and bowel control, breathing problems, and learning disabilities.

WHO WE ARE Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a medical treatment that saturates the body with 100% oxygen under pressure. In this way, the cells of the body become saturated with oxygen at 10-15 times greater than they would under ambient pressure. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy promotes the growth of new capillaries, reduces swelling, and enhances the bodies ability to fight off infection. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is beneficial in treating non healing wounds, severe burns, and many neurologic and orthopedic conditions. Patients with paralysis from strokes, closed head trauma, cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis have had remarkable improvement in strength and function with hyperbarics. There has been an acceleration in the healing of crush injuries, sports injuries as well as skin grafts. SPECIALTIES We specialize in dealing with patients with paralysis associated with prior strokes, cerebral palsy, and multiple sclerosis. We have a special interest in treating patients with diabetic foot ulcers, poor healing wounds, diabetic peripheral neuropathy and recent skin grafts or plastic surgery
