Professor, Chemistry and Chemical Biology Our research is centered on the mechanisms and dynamics of chemical reactions. We are particularly interested in the topic of nonstatistical dynamics, i.e. behavior of molecules that could not be predicted by Transition State Theory (TST). There has been considerable recent attention paid to non-TST behavior during enzyme-catalyzed reactions. Our work is designed to provide some of the experimental and theoretical tools for probing this kind of question. Richard A. Cerione
Professor, Chemistry and Chemical Biology Geoffrey W. Coates Professor, Chemistry and Chemical Biology Our research focuses on the synthesis of new polymeric materials with specifically designed properties. Since the control of polymer composition, architecture, stereochemistry, and molecular weight allows the indirect control of properties via morphology, the research focus of our group is the development of new synthetic strategies for producing polymers of defined structure. One major research thrust is development of catalysts for the synthesis of biomedically relevant polymeric materials from renewable resources. We have recently discovered routes to unprecedented poly(lactic acid) microstructures, and through collaborative efforts are investigating their use in a range of biomedical applications.
