    The Chinese Historical and Cultural Project (CHCP) is based in Santa Clara County, California. It was founded in 1987 as a non-profit organization to promote and preserve Chinese American and Chinese history and culture through community outreach activities. Ng Shing Gung , a religious and community center originally built in 1888 in . In 1991, CHCP donated the Ng Shing Gung to the City of San Jose, making it available to the community at the History Park , at Kelley Park, San Jose. CHCP has established a long term maintainence trust fund of $45,000 to ensure the building will be kept up in future years. (You can view a video of history of the Heinlenville Chinatown in San Jose by Jessica Yu , an Oscar-award winning documentary director at the Ng Shing Gung!) Other CHCP projects include:

    Some words of caution are in place at this point concerning Internet resources. For one do not be misled by the semblance of perfection that often radiates from beautifully designed webpages. The esthetics of such webpages are often in an inverted relationship to their quality. Generally speaking, any resource is as good as its author(s) and as up-to-date as the energies of the author(s) allow. Only too often, resources are placed in the Internet and then not maintained. Also, there are too many collections of links without comments on the quality of the websites to which a link is provided. Increasingly, I am starting to feel that materials in the Internet are in fact often of less quality than traditional publications. One reason for this may well be that quality control in the sense of peer reviews (both preceding publication in print and afterwards in the form of critical book reviews) is virtually lacking, although the
