At the out break of the American civil war the United States of America had a standing army of some 16,000 men. This army was scattered predominantly in western outpost and was being served by only 26 Chaplains. The Confederate Chaplain was not much different than his counterpart in blue. He was a convicted man of God serving the southern army and its men in every aspect.
