Computer Architecture Research Laboratory
Computer Science Department, UC Davis
The Computer Architecture Laboratory serves as a focal point for research into various aspects of computer design and performance. The laboratory facilities include top of the line workstations from Intel, Compaq, IBM, HP, and Sun, which are used to support many different research projects, including (but not limited to) research into ways to increase information content of data streams; studies of how best to use 100 million transistors; the design of a decoupled access-execute architecture that holds great promise for greatly increased performance; work on reducing the memory access penalty by accurately prefetching data; an investigation of optimal multiprocessor cache configurations; and applications and architectures for novel technologies. The laboratory is a founding member of the Quantum Architecture Research Center

  • References 1. Introduction Verilog HDL is a Hardware Description Language (HDL) . A Hardware Description Language is a language used to describe a digital system, for example, a computer or a component of a computer. One may describe a digital system at several levels. For example, an HDL might describe the layout of the wires, resistors and transistors on an Integrated Circuit (IC) chip, i. e., the switch level . Or, it might describe the logical gates and flip flops in a digital system, i. e., the gate level . An even higher level describes the registers and the transfers of vectors of information between registers. This is called the Register Transfer Level (RTL) . Verilog supports all of these levels. However, this handout focuses on only the portions of Verilog which support the RTL level. 1.1 What is Verilog?

    Welcome to Juan's information page
The following are a set of questions and answers about myself, just like a FAQ page. This is not as updated as I would like, but at least you can get an idea of who I am.
    Who I am?
I'm a graduate student at The University of Texas at Austin . I came here in the Fall of 1997 after I finished my undergraduate at the Universidad Santa Maria La Antigua at Panama.
What do I like to study?
Actually an easy question, with a long answer. My interests are all related with computers, and span through computer architecture, operating systems and compilers. I've looked at algorithms, but they are not exactly my best area. Seems like a whole world, and it is... but that's what I like.
My main research interest is Instruction Level Parallelism (ILP) and ways to exploit it. This includes new/old architectural paradigms not limited to speculative execution and the use of compilers to supply hints to the processing core.
Right now I am a member of the Laboratory for Computer Architecture (LCA) , and I am doing my research under the supervision of Prof. Lizy John
