Last updated September 5, 2002 Intro State Agencies Local Govts Professional Archivists K-12 Teachers/Students Grassroots ... Web-based In early 2001, we asked the State Archivists to tell us what educational programs their agencies and state historical records advisory boards (SHRABs) had in place for a variety of audiences. Please note: The information in the table below was gathered through the broad question "What is your state archives/SHRAB doing in the following education areas?" Accordingly, this is not intended as an all-encompassing summary of what the respondent states are doing, but rather, a sampling of the types of educational activities being undertaken at this time. Educational Programs for State Government Employees Summary: Of the thirty-three states included in this category, twenty-nine responded that they provide regular workshops and/or daily training for state records managers (six provide both). Only nine of the states indicated that they have manuals or retention schedules (CT, ME, MO, MI, OR, PA, SC, TX, WY), six of them are available on-line. Michigan and South Carolina have outside funding for state records education (NHPRC). Oregon is the only state providing Web-based training for state government at this time. States and Territories

Connecticut Emergency Physician and Former Air Force Flight Surgeon Elected President-Elect of ACEP
Dr. Carius, of Stratford, Connecticut, is chairman of the Norwalk Hospital Department of Emergency Medicine and clinical instructor in the Department of Traumatology and Emergency Medicine at the University of Connecticut. He received his medical degree from the University of Colorado in 1973, served his internship at the San Diego Naval Regional Medical Center, and completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at USC/LAC Medical Center. He is board certified in emergency medicine and family practice and serves as an oral board examiner for the American Board of Emergency Medicine. "I'm honored to have this opportunity to serve the specialty of emergency medicine, especially at a time of dramatic growth in medical knowledge and technology and when the challenges to the house of medicine have never been greater," said Dr. Carius. "To meet these challenges and stay the course to preserve the quality of emergency care in the United States, as well as a patient's right to access emergency care, ACEP must maintain a broad -based perspective and unite the efforts of its members. We must be consistent in our communications and effectively focus on addressing several issues, such as those related to the uninsured, government regulations, managed care, and funding for graduate medical education. I am dedicated to doing all I can to accomplish these and other goals."

Connecticut River Curriculum Guide

(Guide is in PDF format: Acrobat Reader required
"The Connecticut River watershed is an accessible educational resource for use in any discipline, because it’s right where you are. Your school and your town don’t need to be situated on the Connecticut River for watershed education to be relevant, effective, and engaging. As long as a brook, stream, or small river that eventually contributes water to the Connecticut River flows through your area, you’re in the watershed. The water you use for everything from drinking to generating electricity comes from the watershed and returns to it, eventually ending up in Long Island Sound."
Connecticut in the Classroom Curriculum Guide

(Guide is in PDF format: Acrobat Reader required
The lessons in this guide are organized into two grade groups; K-2 and 3-5. While the lessons are in order of simple concepts spiraling to more difficult ones, individual lessons can be used without doing the other activities in that section. We have attempted to vary the subject areas within each strand to provide cross-disciplinary learning experiences around study of the river. Each lesson contains a list of resources as well as Massachusetts Science and Technology Frameworks connections and a list of applicable MCAS sample questions.
