Sue Snyder's Calendar This calendar is a work in progress, with events frequently changing. This winter and spring there are several broad themes to Sue's work: Total Literacy is being implemented in Lawrence Township (K and discipline-based teachers this year) and Hartford, Connecticut (McDonough School pilot with struggling 2nd and 3rd grade readers), and in the Lighthouse after school program in Bridgeport. Bradley Elementary School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is moving toward arts-based curriculum as well. Sue is program chair and on the executive board of The Music and Arts Center for Humanity (MACH) and invites local arts educators and interested community members to support MACH and consider board membership. This site is a collaborative effort among three states: the State Departments of Education of Connecticut (CT) and Minnesota (MN) and the University of Kansas (KU) to use the World Wide Web (WWW) as a means of supporting and facilitating training. Started in Fall 2000, the site has been developed to disseminate information about characteristics, assessment, and research-based interventions and services for children and youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). A series of modules categorized into eight domains have been developed by: Graduate students at Department of Special Education, University of Kansas. Each module has been carefully planned and developed so that a variety of individuals, such as parents, teachers, and other professionals interested in the education of children and youth with ASD will be able to utilize the information. During that time, his book of poetry, Sweet Dreams, Robyn (1991) was published about his family’s life during his daughter’s successful battle with leukemia and the National Middle School Association published Starting Points - Setting Up and Running a Writing Workshop and Much More (1996). In 1999, he earned his PhD in Reading and Writing Instruction at the University of New Hampshire and now teaches reading, writing, and secondary school language arts courses in the Education Department at the Eastern Connecticut State University. To date, he has eleven publications and twenty-seven presentations. Presented in partnership with the Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire, as part of its Write Now! program, funded by a grant from the Department of Education under the provisions of Title II, Dwight D. Eisenhower Professional Development Program. The awards range from $100,000 to $150,000, totaling almost $3.5 million. FAST, included in December 2000 legislation reauthorizing the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program, provides matching funds to enable states to augment or expand their tech business assistance and SBIR outreach efforts.
