Country/Western Music Association Brief History of the CWMA On Thursday evening, January 12, 1995, veteran entertainers and sound /video technicians gathered to discuss the preservation of traditional Country, Western, Rural, Novelty, Folk, Western Swing, Bluegrass, Appalachian & Mountain Music. Some of these musical styles are in jeopardy of being lost to the sounds now being promoted by the media as "Country". The group all agreed that this type of Country Music deserves preservation and promotion as a vital part of American Music History. It was also agreed that a celebration of such music should be held annually in the hopes that it would spark a renewed interest in the traditional sounds and styles of pre-1970 Rural Music. It was agreed that a group called "COUNTRY/WESTERN MUSIC ASSOCIATION" be formed to work toward this goal. It was agreed that the proposed celebration be called "The COUNTRY/WESTERN JAMBOREE". It was understood that the "C.W.M.A." would not become an entity to replace or impose itself upon any other organization! Instead it would be a promotional organization dedicated to bringing together all traditional "Rural Music" groups in the Pacific Northwest once a year to celebrate our Musical Heritage. Our goal is to encourage and promote interaction and communication among all the diverse factions of "Country Music". We desire the participation and camaraderie of entities such as: The Western Swing Society, Bluegrass Associations, Country Folk Music Associations, and any others who are dedicated to the preservation of traditional Rural Music!
