Walter E Williams © 1999 WorldNetDaily.com An ugly conspiracy of silence If there's to be racial goodwill and harmony, at the minimum we must be willing to confront sometimes ugly truths. One of those truths has to do with interracial crime. We all readily condemn highly publicized racial violence, and rightly so, such as last year's brutal murder of James Byrd by white supremacists in Jasper, Texas. However, there's little notice and condemnation of interracial crimes when whites are the victims. Last June, Jared Taylor, president of New Century Foundation, in Oakton, Va., held a press conference at Washington's National Press Club to report on the foundation's recently released study, "The Color of Crime." Some of the study's findings about interracial crime were surprising, so much so that I did an independent verification of the numbers. Since 1972, the U.S. Department of Justice has conducted a National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) to determine the frequency of certain crimes. One category is interracial crimes. Its most recent publication (1997), "Criminal Victimization in the U.S.," reports on data collected in 1994. In that year, there were about 1,700,000 interracial crimes, of which 1,276,030 involved whites and blacks. In 90 percent of the cases, a white was the victim and a black was the perpetrator, while in 10 percent of the cases it was the reverse.

Violent crime includes murder, rape and sexual assault, robbery, and assault. Age In general, the younger the person, the more likely they were to experience a violent crime. Trends in violent victimization by age, 1973-2001 In 2001
  • Persons age 12 to 24 sustained violent victimization at rates higher than individuals of all other ages.
Beginning with the 20-24 age category, the rate at which persons were victims declined significantly as the age category increased.
The FBI's Uniform Crime Reports show that in 2000 90% of murder victims were age 18 or older. Of all murder victims, 45% were 20 to 34 years old.

Hate Crimes are Crimes Against Our Community
Information Provided by the Police Department
What is a Hate Crime?
"A crime committed against persons or property which is motivated by an individual's dislike of a race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, disability, sexual orientation or gender." If a person or a group is threatened, harassed, assaulted, even murdered, or someone's property is damaged by any means, including arson, a crime has occurred. If the primary reason the crime took place is because of someone's race, religious beliefs or practices, National origin/ethnicity, disability sexual orientation or gender, a hate crime may have been committed.
What should I do if I become the victim of a Hate Crime?
Victims should immediately report any and all such activities of crimes to their local police department for investigation and prosecution. Hate crimes are harsh, emotional, destructive and sometimes violent crimes. The only way to stop hate crimes is to report them. If it happened to you, it has probably happened to others in your community. The police work closely with business groups, neighborhood associations and citizen organizations such as the Arizona Hate Crimes Advisory Board Inc. These crimes create a great deal of fear and distrust. If you fail to report these crimes you add to the problem

Montgomery County 2001 Crime Statistics Reveal Dramatic Rise in Hate Crimes
May 9, 2002 Montgomery County Police Chief Charles A. Moose today announced a modest increase in overall crime, with a slight increase in total Part I crimes within the County last year. Part I crimes are defined as murders, rapes, robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries, larcenies, and auto thefts. In making today's announcement, however, Chief Moose related that: " Montgomery County experienced a 64% increase in reported hate crimes and incidents in 2001." This represents the first noteworthy increase in five years. In particular, religious hate crimes increased by 162%, from 16 in 2000, to 42 in 2001. Moose stated: "There is no place in our society for these types of crimes where people are victimized merely because of their religious beliefs or ethnicity. We take these incidents very seriously and investigate them vigorously."

PRNewswire ``The Clinton Administration's renewed commitment to supporting the homosexual agenda will kill justice in the courtroom, ethics in the classroom, and readiness on the battlefield,'' Family Research Council's Chief Spokeswoman Janet Parshall said Thursday. President Bill Clinton pledged Wednesday to again foist on Congress the ``hate crimes bill,'' which calls for unequal treatment of criminals based on the victim's sexual behavior. Also on Wednesday, Vice President Al Gore pledged that all future appointees to the Joint Chiefs of Staff must embrace open homosexuality in the military. ``Gore's commitment to litmus tests on homosexuality further implicates this Administration in contributing to the breakdown of the American family,'' Parshall said. ``Requiring Joint Chiefs of Staff appointees to embrace open homosexuality violates military principles and forces them to put political correctness before readiness,'' said Lt. Col. Robert Maginnis, FRC's Senior Director for National Security and Foreign Affairs. ``This position is highly offensive and unpopular to the vast majority of service members. The military is one of the last bastions of society that has not been completely forced to succumb to the homosexual agenda; however, retention of volunteers in our military is suffering because of the Clinton Administration's drive to use the military as a petri dish for liberal social policies.'' Maginnis is scheduled to appear on PBS's ``The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer'' Thursday evening to discuss homosexuality and the military.
