Class Memorandums: http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze3j5m8/memoindex.html Course Description
The approach of this course is somewhat unconventional whereas I aim not only to introduce you to the IDEALS of American Criminal Justice, but also (based on personal experiences) to educate you about the REALITIES of the American Criminal Justice.
This course focuses on the administration of criminal justice. We will explore the decision making process whereby some citizens become suspects, some suspects become defendants, some defendants are convicted and in turn become probationers, inmates, and parolees. This will be accomplished by examining the operational practices at the major criminal justice decision-making stages (i.e., police, courts and corrections). Contemporary problems and issues in criminal justice administration will be highlighted and contrasted with the unique history of American criminal justice. Many of the class lectures will be presented on a computer projection unit, using prepared Power point programs. Frequently, the class will view short videos. There will be some guest speakers. The course is essentially divided into four parts.

A truncation symbol in Criminal Justice Periodical Index is a question mark (?), and when this symbol is put at the end of a word, the database will be searched for all of the possible endingssuffixesfor that word. For example, the command CRIM? will search for the words crime, criminal, criminalize, etc. Two Boolean operators that are important in finding information are AND and OR . The AND is used to connect two different concepts and the OR is used between concepts that are synonymous. It is critical to put
