Under the 1960 Constitution the executive power is implemented by a five-year term of office. The president certifies the executive power through a Council of Ministers chosen by him and they can be chosen from outside the House of the Representatives. Each Minister is the leader of his Ministry and exercises executive power on all the matters falling within the field of his Ministry. President: Glafcos Clerides Glafcos Clerides was born in Nicosia on April 24, 1919 and is the eldest son of the late eminent Cypriot Lawyer, Yiannis Clerides. He has studied at the Pancyprian Gymnasium in Nicosia and in England.
