As the two coast across the floor, couples watch their instructors' elegant moves, some awkwardly trying to imitate them. The Whites began ballroom dancing about 13 years ago. Now, as distinguished dancers and instructors, Greg reflects on how he and his wife came to love it. "We both always enjoyed dancing," he said. "We took a country and western dance class once, and it was interesting, but it really wasn't our thing." "We saw a flyer for a dance class through continuing education, much like the class we teach now," White said. "We took the class and stuck with it for all these years."

  • Waltz We teach intermediate, advanced, and occasionally "advanced beginner" classes in waltz, one-step, fox trot, and other traveling dances, plus rumba & cha cha, and whatever else our students clamor for. We usually have a class during the hour before Waltz etcetera begins on Monday evenings. Most of our classes are structured as five one-hour sessions (i.e. 5 weeks); we occasionally teach shorter series, and often offer one-shot workshops on Monday holidays, e.g. Labor Day. Below are general descriptions of our classes; for further details about an upcoming class, check our current schedule or email us What about classes for beginners?
We started teaching classes (waltz, originally) because we perceived a need for more challenging classes in our favorite dances that most of what we saw available. Many of our dancer friends had taken the available classes in waltz, fox trot, etc. and were eager for more, but there were no social dance classes for non-beginners available in these dances. A number of our fellow dancers asked for an intermediate-level class, and thus we began. For dancers with limited experience, the best bet would be our intermediate turning waltz class that begins in September, but it is not a class for beginning dancers. We recommend that beginning dancers go to other local teachers that specialize in teaching beginners and just-past-beginners; come back to us once you've learned what they have to offer!

The Vesna Voronezh Russian Folk Dancers and Musicians performed at McCain Auditorium Friday evening. "They were friendly. They had no airs about them," Joyce Yagerline, assistant professor of dance, said. Dancers displayed traditional Russian folk art on tables in the McCain foyer. "I thought they had a lot of energy and enthusiasm," Yagerline said. Dressed in traditional red costumes, the dancers greeted the audience with smiles and laughter. "They were young, but they had very nice technique. The men were strong, agile and very athletic," Yagerline said. Vesna dancers also participated in a theater and dance class Wednesday with K-State students. Janusz Jaworski, senior in speech education, worked with the Russian dancers.

59. Letter Of The Dance-The Teaching Of Dance
In order to teach dance one should know dance. (No one laugh, we've all done it.)One of the only ways to know if you can teach a dance is to try teaching it.
http://www.pbm.com/~lindahl/lod/vol1/teach.html
The Teaching of Dance
by Lady Cailtidh nicFhionnlaigh bean Cato [ This article appeared in volume 1 of the Letter of Dance I know that many of us love to dance. Even "non-dancers" like to dance. However, the most frustrating thing is to be told, "Oh, this dance may be too difficult for you because you don't know dance terminology." This, in itself, is a fallacy. I can do some very intricate dances, and though I have been dancing in and out of the SCA for over eleven years, I still do not know the names of some of the steps or dance sequences. This "lack of knowledge" has not stopped me yet from learning (and teaching) the dances to others. I realize that not everyone will know how to dance. This is why I came up with "Cailtidh's guidelines to teaching dance." They are as follows:
  • If everyone is where everyone should be at the time that everyone should be there, then the dance went well.
  • If everyone is on the correct foot at the time and place that everyone should be on the aforementioned foot, then the dance went better than well.
  • If everyone is on the correct foot, using the correct arm position, then the dance went better than better than well.
