Danish language
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Danish is one of the Scandinavian languages, a sub-group of the Germanic group of the Indo-European language family. Danish is the official language of Denmark , one of two official languages of Greenland (the other is Greenlandic ), and one of two official languages of the Faeroes (the other is Faeroese ). In addition, there is a small community of Danish speakers in the portion of Germany bordering Denmark. The closest relatives of Danish are the other North Germanic languages of Scandinavia Norwegian and Swedish . Written Danish and Norwegian are particularly close, though the pronunciation of all three languages differs significantly. Proficient speakers of any of the three languages can understand the others.

Mission Statement
Proposing a New Native-Lang Project
Existing Native-Lang Projects
Mission Statement
The Native-Lang projects' mission is to represent, coordinate and expand the worldwide linguistic communities of users, developers and marketers. In this regard, the Native-lang project does not replace the Localization project (the l10n project ) in any way. People who are interested in localizing (say, by translating) the OpenOffice.org's software suite should visit the the l10n project . The Native-Lang projects work with other OpenOffice.org projects such as l10n and the Marketing in order to help the expansion and the widespread use of the OpenOffice.org's office suite. The Native-Lang projects came into being as a response to a felt need in the Open Source community for native-language informational discussion forums. OpenOffice.org is definitively an international project, it's members hail from all around the globe. Native-Lang projects accommodate that breadth. This concept was built with pride by Guy Capra (Alomphega).

English Harry Potter Vs. Russian Tanya Grotter
J.K. Rowling law firm sued Russian publishing house Eksmo on plagiarism allegation
The pending case concerning Harry Potter and Tanya Grotter will get its first court decision on March 25th in Amsterdam. J.K. Rowling, her agents, to be more precise, managed to endure Tanya Grotter’s success in Russia (500 thousand books were sold in Russia over six months). They only released several unfounded plagiarism accusations against Eksmo publishing house and Tanya Grotter’s author, Dmitry Yemets. Yet, J.K. Rowling had get a lot more serious after the news about Tanya Grotter’s publishing in the Danish language.
The story started in October of the last year, when the general director of the Eksmo publishing house received a letter from the law firm LeBoeuf, Lamb, Green and MacRae, which represents Rowling’s interest, from Time Warter and from the Russian publishing house Rosman. In the letter it was said in a decisive way that publishing Tanya Grotter books should be stopped. The letters also ran that Eksmo publishing house should present the financial account about Tanya Grotter book sales. In case of non-execution of the ultimatum, the law firm claimed that it would sue Dmitry Yemets and Eksmo publishing company.
Potential claimants managed to accuse the company Eksmo of plagiarism on numerous occasions, to cancel several press briefings, and someone even said that they had nothing against Eksmo. However, the Dutch publishing house Biblos evinced its interest in Tanya Grotter, became Eksmo’s partner and acquired rights for publishing the book in the English and in the Danish languages.

THE SCANIAN LANGUAGE
NORDIC STOCK
Before the present Scandinavian countries were established, the Nordic region - around the year 1000 a.d. - consisted of a number of smaller nations or peoples. The languages spoken by the inhabitants of these nations derived from a common Nordic language stock. In the Danish-speaking territory the following regions had their distinct languages:
  • the islands of Sjælland, where the mainland of Sjælland was the central part.
  • in the west the language of the Jutlanders and,
  • in the east, the language of Scania. Scania is today sometimes referred to as the southern part of Sweden. THE NAME
Scania was for a considerable part of its history the richest nation in the Nordic region. This was partly contributed to the important herring fishery at the southwestern part of Scania, at the town of Skanör. The fishing industry attracted merchants from all over Europe. The first part of the word Scandinavia derives from the name Scania and Skanör - Skaaney and Scaaneyrr. THE ORIGIN
The record of the language of the Scanians can be traced back to the earliest part of history. The texts of the Scanian runes from the 10th and 11th century evidences the existence of a specific community language which, even at these early ages, differs from its linguistic neighbours both as regards to grammatical forms and vocabulary. The Scanian language has greatly contributed to the development of the Danish language since Scania, and its metropolis Lund, was the cultural centre of the Danish state until the turn of the 16th century and up to the time of the invasion by Sweden in 1658.
