Nutrition Policy
State of Delaware
School Nutrition Task Force Nutrition Policy Prototype MISSION STATEMENT: School districts in the State of Delaware are committed to protecting and enhancing children's health and well being. One important way in which each school contributes is by providing a nutritious food service program. Child nutrition programs are an integral part of the school environment. Nutrition influences a child's development, lifelong health status, and potential for learning. Food service programs achieve this goal by providing students with nutritious and appetizing meals served courteously, in a sanitary and pleasant dining environment. Nutrition education activities in the classrooms and the dining rooms support the comprehensive health education program. Child Nutrition Programs are managed in accordance with the regulations and policies for the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs, the After School Snack Program, the Summer Food Service Program, the Delaware Department of Education, the State Board of Health and the districts' Board of Education. Goals and objectives of the programs are pursued in a professional, efficient and fiscally sound and responsible manner. 800.24 Child Nutrition

Data Coordination Task Order: $50,000
Unify Data Collection Vehicles
The state legislature, state board of education, and the SEA initiated several programs that required the collection, storing, and reporting of new information. As a result, the SEA proposed to unify existing and proposed data collection vehicles under a VAX computer umbrella utilizing existent student databases, and using a website as the primary means of transmitting data unrelated to the student databases such as school profile information and SEA reports. At the same time, the SEA proposed to develop an online data dictionary and to modify computer programs in order to improve the data submitted by LEAs to the SEA and to improve the data reported by SEA to NCES and other federal agencies. Task results included:
  • Development of a student database to facilitate the School Choice application and selection process
  • Development of a student database to facilitate the Charter School application and selection process
  • Development of an online system to report incidents of school violence in Delaware schools
