Dinosaurs of the Gobi: The birdlike, beaked Oviraptor returns to the nest to feed its young, in a painting based on paleontological finds in the desert in Mongolia that show for the first time such parenting behavior in dinosaurs.
For decades afterward Mongolia was closed to Western researchers. Finally, in 1990, Mongolians invited scientists from the museum to return to the fabulous dinosaur graveyards. Now, after five years of exploration, the researchers are beginning to reveal their spectacular finds. Venturing even deeper into the remote Gobi than Andrews did, the 1993 expedition stumbled upon a hilly desert wash called Ukhaa Tolgod. Within hours of arriving and seeing bones jutting from the cliffs, they knew they had discovered perhaps the richest dinosaur fossil ground ever. This article details the exciting 1995 expedition led by paleontologists Michael Novacek and Mark Norell, a pair of scientists whose discoveries are challenging the way we look at dinosaurs. Among the extraordinary events covered is the excavation of the first known nesting dinosaur, an ostrich-like creature called Oviraptor , whose bones were found on a ring of some 20 eggs. It apparently died when a huge sandstorm buried it 80 million years ago.

Dinosaurs
The dinosaurs were reptiles that appeared about 230 million years ago. It's believed that they had scaly skin and some ate plants and others ate meat. Scientists don't know whether or not the dinosaurs were cold blooded, but they think the smaller ones were warm blooded, and the large ones were cold-blooded. In this report you'll learn about the earliest dinosaurs, the kinds of dinosaurs, and how the dinosaurs died. In this part of my report I'm going to tell you about the earliest dinosaurs. There are two main groups of the earliest dinosaurs: The saurischian , and the ornithischian First I'll tell you about the Saurischian. The Saurischian were the first main group of dinosaurs. The Saurischian had lizard like hip joints. In this group there is the Theropoda. These weird dinosaurs were meat eaters that walked on their hind legs. Also there was the Sauropoda. The Sauropoda were the plant eating dinosaurs that walked on all four legs. The second main kind of dinosaurs were the Ornithischian, which had bird like hip joints. There is only one group belonging to this group and that is the ornithopoda. The Ornithopoda were plant-eating dinosaurs that walked on two legs. There were also the armored and horned dinosaurs, which were also plant eaters. And that was my part of the report on the earliest dinosaurs. I hope you have enjoyed my information.

Four-winged dinosaur makes feathers fly

A dinosaur with 'extra wings' is challenging long cherished theories about the origin of bird flight Full story

Cruel, massive, scaly lizards, as tall as the tallest tree, always ugly and very often natural-born killers...For the past century dinosaurs have dominated our imaginations - from the schlock-horror nightmares of the 1950s to the Jurassic Parks of the 1990s. But beyond all the fun and the hype, there's a lot of science out there. And the past decade has been especially good for dinoresearchers who've come up with no end of theories on everything from dino DNA to weird illnesses they suffered from to the chances of reconstructing a real one in your garden. Some of the science has definitely upset old ideas. There are now two distinct and very rival camps: one with a vision of a quick and nasty end (asteroid impact), the other seeing a slow and nasty end (deadly gases from outer space, huge volcanic explosions on Earth). While these big questions are still waiting to be solved, answers are emerging to lots of smaller, equally intriguing ones. What colour were dinos? (Smart money's on pink.) And how did they sound? (Like an upset tum on a bad day!) Perhaps, the most fascinating question of all - how did they live? Were they always the fierce loners of fiction?

http://www.dinox.freeserve.co.uk/
INTRODUCTION Dinosaurs, and a rich variety of land based prehistoric life, achieved surprisingly massive sizes in comparison to present day life. This ability of dinosaurs to achieve gigantic sizes conflicts with studies which indicate that the largest of today's animals have reached their maximum size. Many people have asked why the dinosaurs were so large, but an examination of the size limits on today's life indicates that a reduced gravity during the dinosaur's time would have allowed them to grow to gigantic sizes. One explanation for this reduced gravity would be if the earth was smaller in both size and mass during the dinosaurs' time. There is geological evidence for the earth's increase in diameter since the dinosaur's time - an expanding earth. My book Dinosaurs and the Expanding Earth provides details of the controversial theory so you can examine why I believe this theory holds an astonishing truth. The web site gives a brief introduction to some of the main concepts behind the theory. There are also links to other sites about gigantic dinosaurs and their lifestyles and the evidence for the Expanding Earth Theory, a Comments Section, a Quiz and some suggestions for Further Reading Stephen Hurrell RELATED INFORMATION

Although these designs will work with cheap computer paper, you can photocopy your printout onto colored cardstock for a sturdier and more colorful dinosaur. Or trace the cut-outs onto single-ply cardboard, like that on a cereal box. You can also use crayons, paint, colored pencils/pens, etc., on your dinosaur, but it is best to do this before gluing them together. My kids at summer camp like to glue wigs, hats, etc. on them. You can also add volume by putting little creases where the shoulders and hips are on the bodies. This makes them stand up better as well as look better.
