  • Check out the new jobs, The handy hints on the I want a Govie and I want a Job form, The Job Agencies and Registers page
In Australia governesses supervise lessons provided by various schools of distance education. Often our work places are in isolated regions, on pastoral stations. Each day a governess heads to the ‘schoolroom’, which could be a caravan, cottage or a boat, to supervise the children. Govies are a unique part of remote Australia. Governesses Australia is an initiative of three different School of the Air governess groups from around Australia. We aim to network Govies across Australia, to gain recognition and unity. Please feel free to have a look around our site, or “Talk to Govies in the Outback”, our chat site. Next year we will be having monthly chat sessions on topics such as Classroom setup, Maths, Reading, and anything else that you want. Click on 'View My Guest Map' to add yourself to the map!

The Department Staff Students ... Feedback
Nursing is both an art and a science. It is the professional practice of care and service to people, promoting, supporting and restoring health and well-being. It is a skilled and deliberate response to health need, using knowledge and skills learned from biological, physical, and behavioural disciplines. The nurse is, at once, a responsible health-care provider, a leader and a client advocate. As a research-based profession, nursing promotes good health both through independent study and collaboration with practitioners of related disciplines. The four-year nursing program at St. F.X., leading to a bachelor of science in nursing (BScN) degree, is designed to cultivate the best qualities in future professionals. The practicioner role of the baccalaureate graduate reflects competence in all aspects of nursing:
  • generalized practice in independent and interdependent roles, expert skill in the performance of nursing at a highly individualized level, and critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision making.

Begin with the premise that in the traditional face-to-face teaching, nearly all displays and performances are allowed. Section 110(1) allows almost any "performance" or "display" in the nonprofit educational context, when the activities are in the classroom or other similar location. The "face-to-face" language apparently does not have to be read literally. The report from the House of Representatives, which accompanied passage of the 1976 Act, states:
The concept does not require that the teacher and students be able to see each other, although it does require their simultaneous presence in the same general place. Use of the phrase "in the course of face-to-face teaching activities" is intended to exclude broadcasting or other transmissions from an outside location into classrooms, whether radio or television and whether open or closed circuit. However, as long as the instructor and pupils are in the same building or general area, the exemption would extend to the use of devices for amplifying or reproducing sound and for projecting visual images.
This explanation may mean that we can display and perform works through some closed-circuit system that delivers them to other locations on campus-a common need for popular classes, where all students are unable to meet in one room. That capability is crucial for campuses that lack large auditoriums for basic and popular courses.

Overview Planning Issues - All Models Logistical Support Student Support ... Three Models Matrix (uses Tables) Three Models Matrix (plain text)
Overview
The term distance education represents a variety of educational models that have in common the physical separation of the faculty member and some or all of the students. As with all types of education, the various distance education models are built around the central components of the instructional process: presentation of content; interaction with faculty, peers, and resources; practical application; and assessment. Each distance education model uses technologies in various ways to address some or all of these components. The various distance education models differ not only in the types of technologies that are used, but also in the locus of control over the pace and place of instruction. In some models, the faculty and institution have primary control, as is the case in a traditional classroom environment. In others, the control rests with the student.

The principal technology of current research interest is the World Wide Web. With increasing numbers of individuals and institutions of higher education becoming involved in the application of distance education methods, the AJDE continues to be an invaluable resource, especially for educators who are new at developing and delivering training and educational programs at a distance and for administrators setting up systems for this kind of education.
