WE NEED YOUR HELP! We desperately need your help! Recently we have lost some of our very key volunteers at the Shelter. They have had to leave the Shelter due to job and family changes that just couldn't be prevented. But it has left us in a world of hurt! We just don't have enough help right now to take care of the animals, especially the dogs. If you could possibly spare just a couple of hours a week, or even once a month, we'd be delighted to have you join our team! We'll be glad to provide training on how to care for the animals. Please consider joining a team of wonderful volunteers. It's a wonderful way to know you're helping some pretty special animals and doing something to make a difference! If you can help out, please contact the Shelter at 715-743-4550 during open hours or drop us an e-mail at petshelter@email.com. We really need your help, and we look forward to having you as part of our family!! The Clark County Humane Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the care and adoption of cats and dogs. A wonderful group of over 350 people, our goal is to assist the lost, surrendered, unwanted, and unloved cats and dogs of the area. We care for them as if they were our own beloved pets while we search for their rightful owners, or try to find them a suitable new home. All of our volunteers are so very proud that we are one of the few no-kill shelters in the state!

http://www.listorganizer.com/petcare.htm
Remember when Mom said, "Do you know how much work it is to take care of a dog?" Here's a list to help you remember that owning an animal is a big responsibility. Some animals are easier to take care of than others, but they all take work. Next to each chore, mark how often it needs to be done. Scratch through the chores you never do and ignore those. This gives you an idea of the time commitment for your pets. If you really want to be organized, transfer these commitments to a place on your planner or To-Do List.

V. Dogs and Cats: Dogs, Cats - Getting Along INDEX So, you're thinking of bringing home a puppy, but you're not sure how your cat will react to a new four-legged member of the family. Take heart - canines and felines can indeed get along! And by heeding a few simply precautions, your happy, harmonious home will prove false that old phrase, "fighting like cats and dogs"! On the day you bring home a puppy to a household with a cat, the ASPCA recommends that you put the dog in a crate or another room. You can also keep the two separated by using a sturdy baby gate. Allow your cat to sniff out the dog on her own terms. Remember, it's perfectly normal for a cat to hiss and run away when she sees the newcomer for the first time. If you are bringing home a cat and your resident dog understands basic commands, you're in luck. You'll most likely be able to control him indoors around the cat. If the dog lacks basic manners or is the newcomer, you'll need to put him on a short leash. Should he attempt to chase the cat, simply step on the end of the leash and tell him "Sit" or "Down." Don't forget to praise him when he complies.

III. Dogs: Behavior: Aggression/Other Dogs
INDEX
Your dog isn't going to like every dog he meets - and this is perfectly normal canine behavior. But if he's regularly biting or picking fights with other dogs, you've got a problem on your hands. Most dogs learn the rules of the game by playing with their littermates. They soon find out that other puppies won't play with an animal that bites too hard. By spending his first two months with his family, a puppy learns from his mother the proper way to communicate with other dogs. For this reason, orphan puppies, and those who were taken from their litter at too young an age, are most likely to exhibit aggressive behaviors to other dogs. The best way to combat the problem is to start young. The ASPCA recommends that you enroll your pet in puppy kindergarten to begin exposing him to friendly dogs. You may also want to introduce him to some adult dogs-but first make sure they're healthy and vaccinated. Keep these sessions indoors-only until your pup has completed his series of vaccinations.

In pets, hookworm ova(egg) are passed in the host's feces and develop to the first larval stage if the temperature and humidity are adequate. Ova can hatch in 10-12 hours at 30 degrees centigrade and in 9 hours at 37 degrees centigrade. Infection can occur via ingestion or skin penetration(commonly infested thru the feet) followed by a pulmonary migration, a developmental stage in the gastric glands, or an arrested state in the muscular tissue in older animals. Migration and maturation occur in 17 days. Transport hosts, especially rodents, may play a role in the transmission of this parasite. Clinical signs may be one or more of the following: 1. Intestinal blood loss causing anemia
