Between a quarter and a third of all women experience some form of domestic violence from the male partner or ex-partner. Almost half of all murders of women are committed by their male partner. The British Medical Journal ( BMJ volume 311, January 1995) reported that women subjected to physical abuse are more likely to report mental health problems including anxiety, depression, and attempts at suicide. serial bully chillingly familiar. Domestic violence can be physical as in assault and battering, or it can be psychological as with constant criticism, refusal to acknowledge or support, or the deliberate use of silence, perhaps for weeks at a time. Often a violent partner is sexually violent and inadequate. Sometimes the violent partner may be abusing or sexually abusing their children. For insight into abuse click here.

    Domestic Violence Against Men
The notion that all men are evil and violent and that all women are innocent and justified, which is the portrayal being bantered about by domestic violence awareness advocates is unconscionable. I cannot defend other peoples research. I know that my mother beat me to the point of unconsciousness (sporadically) over the years. My first wife, who had uncontrollable diabetes, shot me for spending three dollars out of my paycheck. My second wife stabbed me. Her court-appointed psychologist spouted all kinds of rhetoric about the innocence of women and the battered women's syndrome. We were not even getting divorced, there had never been any violence. For that matter, there had never even been many disagreements, let alone arguments. Subsequent therapy revealed that she was suffering from paranoia and acted out against me as a result of projection (wherein she projected her own noxious qualities, to me). The motivation for those women to act violently was not a result of a man's inherent violence toward women. Obviously, there were underlying complications in all of their personalities that facilitated and or created a propensity for violence. I was told by the court-appointed therapist that the violence from my second wife was my fault, because since my mother beat me and my first wife shot me, I "sought out women that were this way." While it may be true that I consciously or subconsciously sought women that had those characteristics, to have a woman's unprovoked violence to be dismissed by a "professional" as my fault, shocks the conscience. Certainly I believe in accountability and responsibility and ultimately, we all make choices that may lead us to an inevitable or expected result, but to say it is my fault is no less rational than saying that it is women's fault that they get battered.

We were cosponsors of the American Medical Association - Bureau of Justice National Conference on Domestic Violence held in March of this year. Our goal was to help those attending understand the dual nature of domestic violence. Domestic violence is a confusing and disturbing phenomena, perhaps rooted in the frustrations and disappointments of a hectic society, but it is not gender specific as some would have us believe. In what has been called a "dance of mutual destruction", mainstream research indicates that men and women abuse each other with almost equal frequency. For instance, the statistic that "one woman is battered every 15 seconds" (1.8 million per year) is based on

Men Stopping Violence was founded in 1982 based on the premise that men can work together, in alliance with the battered women's movement, to end men's violence against women.
We are a social change organization dedicated to ending men's violence against women. This violence is a manifestation of social norms that promote the subjection of women. While Men Stopping Violence works with individual men who batter, we know that substantive change involves shifting the norms that tacitly condone and promote violence against women. Men can work as allies to end violence against women-individual and institutional.
Men Stopping Violence is committed to ending all forms of oppression and creating a world that respects all forms of life.

And talking to another man about it is the first step in healing in survival. The Centers for Disease Control "cook" the data and ignore their own study on domestic violence to gender-polarize the issue of dating violence, but many studies show that women initiate dating violence about as often as men.
