Introduction

Year 10 Programme

Year 9 Programme
Year 8 Drama
Outline
Stages 4 to 6 Drama are designed to provide students with a general experience of the art form, whether in individual performance or in group-devised improvisational work. The subject matter covered allows all students to develop their own interest in acting, production, directing or writing and research. Drama skills and knowledge are developed simultaneously through participation in creative activity, providing a framework for students to develop higher order thinking skills. They develop an understanding of the cultural traditions and social contexts of drama and theatre and acquire skills in interpretation, communication, performance and critical analysis. The Drama 2 Unit course continues to make the study of performance and dramatic art as collaborative activities its central concern. The course is concerned with understanding, constructing, experiencing and appreciating dramatic and theatrical art forms. Boys taking 2 Unit Drama study the practical and theoretical elements at an advanced level. Drama is offered as an elective in Years 9 and 10 and is compulsory part of the curriculum. Year 8 Boys are encouraged to be involved in the annual extra curricular productions and Year 7 boys are given the opportunity to take part in weekly co-curricular classes.

In addition, all drama students must write reviews of three plays each year. Two of these play reports must be completed first semester. At least one of the three must be a play performance by a professional theatre group. You may write up to two reports on school productions. If you are cast in a play, you will still be expected to write a report each comment period. The reports will be due no later than the first class day of the last week of each comment period. At he same time it was divided into three independent faculties: Music (HAMU), Film (FAMU) and Theatre (DAMU). Initially, DAMU offered study opportunities in acting, direction, stage design and dramaturgy; now puppetry, arts management, theatre studies and drama education are integral parts of this Faculty. On December 10, 1998, an exchange agreement was signed between the Department of Theatre, OSU and the Academy of Performing Arts, Prague, Czech Republic. The two institutions have found it mutually beneficial to initiate cooperative activities in theatre and the performing arts for the following purpose:
  • Exchange of faculty for lecturing, directing, designing, workshops, technical design and theatre technology, and research. Cooperation on collaborative activities such as an exhibition of theatre design, co-produced performances, and the documentation and preservation of designated theatre materials (for the Lawrence and Lee Theatre Research Institute, OSU).

He presented his now widely acclaimed and applied theory of multiple intelligences in his book, Frames of Mind (Gardner, 1983). Strategies that educators can use to integrate this theory into the teaching setting are given by Linda Campbell, Bruce Campbell, and Dee Dickinson in Hilary McLellan addressed the question of virtual reality and multiple intelligences in a seminal article, "Virtual Reality and Multiple Intelligences: Potentials for Higher Education" (1994). How can virtual reality (VR) be used with the theory of multiple intelligence to enhance learning and help achieve objectives? Here are some of my suggestions for ways to use virtual reality, based on the strategies given for seven of Gardner's intelligence types in . The eighth intelligence, naturalist or spiritual, is a recent addition to the list.

    Why Study Drama?

Like other arts, Drama is an independent discipline with particular intellectual and physical rigours, and it helps develop quite distinct ways of examining human behaviour and the human condition. drama is a collaborative art form which develops the creative interaction of individuals, using a range of artistic skills. As a discipline it possesses a body of practical and theoretical knowledge, the application of which can give physical and vocal expression to human experiences and perceptions. The skills and knowledge acquired through the study of Drama may be further developed and employed in a variety of professions, including - but not confined to - theatre, media and community arts. In addition to specific career opportunities, the subject encourages the development of personal characteristics such as confidence, adaptability, and the ability to communicate.

Reader's theater is minimal theater in support of literature and reading. There are many styles of reader's theater, but nearly all share these traits:
    Readers' Theatre
Readers' theatre is an interpretive oral reading activity. Students use their voices, facial expressions and hand gestures to interpret characters in scripts or stories. Teachers and students may adapt favourite stories for readers' theatre through collaborative script writing activities. Readers Theatre: Concepts and Elements The very fact that the name of the genre contains the word"readers" indicates that it has a strong focus on the text. Text is the most important concept in the Readers theatre. READERS THEATRE INSTRUCTIONS WHAT IS IT? Readers Theatre is the staged reading of literature. [A Word From Doctor Johnson]
Johnson, indeed, had thought more upon the subject of acting than might be generally supposed. Talking of it one day to Mr. Kemble, he said, 'Are you, Sir, one of those enthusiasts who believe yourself transformed into the very character you represent?' Upon Mr. Kemble's answering that he had never felt so strong a persuasion himself; 'To be sure not, Sir, (said Johnson;) the thing is impossible. And if Garrick really believed himself to be that monster, Richard the Third, he deserved to be hanged every time he performed it.' James Boswell, Life of Johnson [October 1783].
    Course Introduction
This course is organized and conducted very differently from most English courses. That's why this description of it is probably longer and more detailed than any you've ever seen, and why I'll offer you a chance to consider it at some length. It will be organized as what I call a "collaborative investigation" of the dramatic literature and the theatre of the Restoration and Eighteenth Century in England. In short, what that means is that the members of the class work together to explore and learn about the texts and their context, rather than reading, listening to lectures on, and discussing a pre-decided list of texts. I think of it this way: if there were a group of people who wanted to find out about a subject in this case, this literature how would we best go about doing that if there
