sex, music and QOD Catholic Guilt: The Easter version. It's the season of Lent, that time in between Ash Wednesday and Easter when I feel the most guilt about leaving Catholicism. Now, guilt comes with being Catholic. It's instilled in you from an early age, honed and perfected until you become one with it. And someday, should you choose to leave the church, denounce its teaching and have nothing to do with any organized religion whatsover, you will still have the guilt. It's forever. When I was little, I remember the frequently uttered phrases from my aunts. God will punish you. God is watching you. Do you want God to know you're doing that? God is not happy with you right now. All fed to you with pointed finger and clenched teeth and stern eyes. For a while I was frozen in fear. I couldn't do anything without wondering if God was watching me. I was six years old and picking my nose one day when it suddenly dawned on me that I was probably being watched and I would go to hell for wanting to get a booger out of my nose. I ran into my room, knelt down by my bed and asked God to forgive me. This persisted through the course of my life, those phrases always ringing in my ears whenever I did something wrong. I laid in bed at night, imagining a stern, cross god screaming at me for everything I did during the day, reviewing it on some huge monitor he had up in heaven.

What we will learn
Reading the Bible helps us know what is true. LEARN ABOUT JESUS AND HIS FRIENDS In this section, help your child understand why Jesus' friends were so important in the plan of God. Jesus' friends were the people who would share His love with the whole world, so it was important that they believed Him first. Teaching Tool #1:
When your child wonders why Jesus' friends were afraid and surprised to see Him, explain that . . . they had watched Jesus die and be buried. They had trouble believing He was alive and standing with them. Teaching Tool #2:

The Ascension!

Jesus remained on earth for forty days after
His resurrection, though He was seen only ten
times in those forty days. He continued to
teach and minister and perform great wonders.
He spoke to His disciples at length about the
kingdom of God, and taught them all they should know, in order for them to continue His ministry and good works. On the fortieth day, Jesus appeared to over five hundred people, including the eleven disciples, who were all gathered at the mount of Olives; and He said, "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.; Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world." Jesus lifted His hands and blessed them; and as He did, He was lifted up to heaven, and disappeared into the clouds. The disciples' hearts were filled with joy as they worshipped Jesus. They went to the

How Did Pagan Customs Mix into Christmas and Easter?
It began hundreds of years ago, when the Church changed the Bible. . .
Many modern traditions of Christian holidays do not originate from Christianity itself. These customs are not "harmless" sources of joy, but rather cause invisible spiritual damage to the souls of family members and other loved ones. What is the source of such customs as adorning Christmas trees with lights, decorating with pine branches, holly, mistletoe, and yule logs, or exchanging gifts? Indeed, why is Christmas celebrated in late December, a time that Jesus certainly was not born? And from where did the name "Easter" come, together with the 40-day fast of Lent and the Easter egg? All of these strange customs originated in ancient forms of idol-worship, including the Egyptian cult of Isis, the Syrian and Babylonian cults of Astarte (or "Ishtar"), the Greek cult of Dionysus, the Roman festivals of Saturnalia and the sun, the cults of the Druids in England, and others. Such pagan cults were notorious for practicing witchcraft, forced prostitution, self-mutilation, human sacrifice to false gods, and even burning children alive. In other words, the Church accepted its holiday traditions from ancient Egypt, Babylon, Greece, and Romeenemies of G-d who fought bitterly against His Word and were condemned by such Biblical prophets as Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel for their wickedness.

How the Church celebrates Easter
'One Great Sunday' Several years ago, an informal survey of workshop participants asked, "Which feast do Catholics generally consider to be more significant, Christmas or Easter?"
Their answer?
Christmas in terms of family lives and cultural customs in general; but Easter in terms of the life of faith.
The Easter Season can go by many different names Paschal Time, Eastertide, or the days of "Pentecost" (a Greek word meaning 50 days).
In the renewal which followed Vatican II, as the Church re-examined how it celebrated the liturgy and sacraments, it considered how such celebrations had evolved over the centuries, and decided to "bring back" some of the emphases and practices of early Christianity.
One of those seasons re-examined and renewed was Easter.
In the early Church, the liturgical calendar began and ended with Easter, notes Sr. Sandra DeGidio, OSM, in an article for Catholic Update. In fact, the Church's liturgical calendar as a whole is actually a Resurrection-based calendar, she adds. Easter was also "one feast day" but one that lasted for 50 days.

Americans love stories. Sometimes we pass along some really important truths wrapped up in a story. Here's a storyand one with a significant point for us all.
My father was a one of those small town story tellersnot beyond stretching the truth a bit to make the tale richer. Let me relate one of his favorite storiesone that I believe is entirely true, because I live in the same county he was talking about.
Once my dad had to officiate at a Masonic service in a remote area of our rural county. The local man who asked him to come gave him the following directions:
Needless to say, my dad's guide was not a very good one. He had to stop about three times to ask for clearer directions. He needed good guidance, which is something we all need in life.

Today s lesson from the book of Acts tells us something about a better kind of guidance. The story is one of a royal officer in the Ethiopian court - traveling back home from worshiping in Jerusalem. He was reading aloud from the Hebrew Bible - from the book of Isaiah. The man s traveling companion was an early Christian disciple, Philip.
Philip became inspired to ask the Ethiopian if he understood what he was reading. "How can I? He replied, unless someone guide me?" So Philip began to teach him the Good News of Christ.

W hen Nadine breaks up their act, Don Hewes heads for Pastini's cafe to have a drink and console himself. In a moment of anger, he boasts that he can take any one of the chorus girls at Pastini's and teach them to dance better than Nadine. To prove his point, he selects Hannah and offers her a job, telling her to meet him at a rehearsal hall the next day. The next day, feeling sheepish, he hopes she won't show up, but she does. It takes some effort, but Don does, indeed, teach Hannah how to dance - but not before learning that her style is not the same as Nadine's. In the mean time, Hannah falls in love with Don, Don's best friend, Jonathan, falls for Hannah, and Nadine falls for Jonathan.
Easter Parade is a beautifully produced and enjoyable film with some great Irving Berlin tunes. The real showstoppers are Fred and Judy's "I Love a Piano" medley and their hobo number "A Couple of Swells", as well as Ann Miller's "Shakin' the Blues Away". Judy and Fred do a great comedy dance routine with flying feathers (reminiscent of Astaire's problems with Ginger Rogers' feathered gown in Top Hat ). Though Minnelli was taken off the picture, and it was completed by Charles Walters, Minnelli's touch is more than evident in the sumptuous staging, colors and costumes.

Traditions Kill People
June 1998
Hundreds of millions, of people think their traditions are correct. They think they are Christians, YET they ignore the things that the Prophets have said in the Bible, that they profess to believe.
Daniel Webster in the Dictionary gives us the definitions of the words we use. A Hypocrite IS: "one who pretends to beliefs, sentiments, etc. he does not actually feel." Hypocrites keep traditions even when God says in the Bible that they are wrong, VERY WRONG! He even calls them abominations in his sight. Just think how many millions, yea, hundreds of millions of people listen to church leaders to keep traditions instead of obeying what God commanded in the Bible. EVEN when they can READ IT for themselves. The Dictionary says of: "FOREVER - eternally, continually, without end!" Now in the Bible that the hypocrites SAY, YES SAY, that they believe.
In Exodus 12:14,17,24, it says to keep the Passover "By an ordinance FOREVER!" Instead of obeying GOD, the hypocritical church leaders say to ignore GOD, and keep the tradition of Easter.

http://easter.org/EasterChurch/mission.html
Our Mission:
To grow in faith and carry on the work of Jesus Christ.
WHAT WE BELIEVE:
We are a body of believers called by God, gathered together for nurture and mutual support, and sent into the world as witnesses of the Gospel. We are part of the holy, catholic and apostolic church, represented in our membership in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, even as we are distinct from other congregations.
We believe Jesus is Lord and Savior of heaven and earth.
We believe Jesus has called us
to go to all peoples everywhere,
to make them his disciples,
to baptize in the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
to teach them to obey all that he commanded.
We believe Jesus Christ is always with us in spirit and in truth and will be to the end of the age.
We believe that God has richly blessed each of us with unique talents and treasures which he expects us to use wisely and sacrificially in his service. He calls us to learn his joy by active service to him and his church. He requires us to love kindness, do justice and walk humbly with him. OUR COMMITMENT: Therefore, in response to God's calling and the desire to participate with God and each other in the life and mission of the church, we promise to demonstrate the love of God through our lives.

Verso l'alto.
