    Welcome!
The Master's Program of Ecology was launched at Munich University of Technology (TUM) in 2002. It is intended for international and German graduate students who wish to pursue a career that includes ecological research.
Ecology has been defined as the science of interaction of organisms with each other and their abiotic environment. It is a basic science, encompassing a wide range of specific research fields that unite in the study of biological organisation at all levels from the individual to the biocoenosis, the ecosystem and the ecosystem complex (landscape) level. With the following research fields present, the Weihenstephan Center of Life and Food Sciences (WZW) of TUM is one of Germany's most comprehensive centers for ecological studies, offering to you unique education possibilities: Theory of Ecology, Soil Ecology, Animal Ecology, Vegetation Ecology/Geobotany, Limnology, Microbial Ecology, Ecoclimatology, Ecotoxicology, Ecophysiology, Plant-Parasite Interactions, Population Ecology, and Production Ecology.
As Master students, you will choose two or three of these research fields, and will be fully integrated with current research programs. Seminars, lab and field training and lectures will equip you with knowledge and skills required for scientific work in your areas of interest. Various electives allow you to broaden and deepen this knowledge. In your last semester, you complete a Master's thesis, making a unique contribution to research in one of your selected core fields. The regular duration of the Master's Program of Ecology, including the completion of the Master's thesis, is three semesters (1,5 years).

The information provided in this section will help you to increase your ecological knowledge and awareness. If we are to create a sustainable future and save our planet from destruction we must start thinking and acting on the lines how our lifestyle and behaviour conditions environmental issues. The essential idea underlying all materials in this section is "to be able to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs".
