Central to that research has been the application of ecological principles to the conservation of rare and endangered species and their habitats. Recent studies of the stopover and breeding biology of Neotropical migratory birds along the northern Gulf coast and in Great Smoky Mountains National Park are examining the relationship between populations of these birds and landscape scale patterns of habitat availability and land use.
