Composition, Theory, and Electronic Music Division
Ohio University provides instruction in composition and e lectronic music from beginning levels through advanced graduate levels. Composition is taught in private lessons or very small groups. The course of instruction and pacing are carefully tailored to meet individual needs and goals. Electronic Music is taught in a two-year series of inter-related courses that cover a broad range of knowledge and technology, with particular emphasis on learning to use technology to create original compositions.
Undergraduate Courses
Degrees Offered
Bachelor of Music in Music Theory or Composition
Master of Music in Theory or Composition Graduate Courses
Music Theory and Composition Curriculum
The curriculum is designed to prepare exceptionally talented students for careers as theorists or composers, or for continued study or graduate work in theory or composition. The curriculum focuses on basic musicianship skills, a nalytical, aural, and writing skills; compositional facility and technique; and the acquisition of a historical perspective on, and basic knowledge of technological innovations in the field. Music composition at Ohio University is taught in private or semi private lessons with a major professor or visiting composer-in residence. Six quarters of private study are required for the undergraduate composition degree, while the master's degree requires three quarters. Both degrees culminate with a signifi cant final composition project (Senior Project or Masters Thesis). Student composition recitals provide valuable opportunities for young composers to hear their music performed. An annual competition provides students with the opportunity for a performance of their music by the university orchestra. Student composers are also encouraged to take advantage of opportunities at Ohio University outside the School of Music, such as composing music for student films, videos, theater productions, and dance concerts . Both degrees also have an electronic music component, as well as instruction in instrumentation and orchestration.

Updates for Version 1.6.1
Features / Niceties
  • Two issues that caused SMTP authentication failures have been resolved:
  • Some servers report that the "PLAIN" SASL mechanism is supported, but do not actually implement/enable it. This mechanism is now avoided by Nisus Email if possible. Servers that specify the "FROM field parameter" AUTH mechanism are now assumed to support the generic form as well (eg: Yahoo! mail). MIME messages structured as RFC 1154 (and predecessors) dictate are now handled. Currently Nisus Email decodes the "TEXT" and "UUENCODED" subtypes within this structure. Opening a list of emails in your word processor now opens the list in sorted order When multiple emails are opened within Nisus Email, the windows are staggered as to not go off the screen. There is a "New Email" menuitem on the "File" menu.

    Address Books
You can send a message to someone by typing his/her email address on the first line of the Addressing Area. But remembering long email addresses is next to impossible for most of us. Fortunately with Messenger at Tufts, you have several options. You can use the Tufts' LDAP Directory and/or create your personal address book(s). You can also create mail distribution lists within your address book or create listprocs for purposes relating to teaching, coursework, research, administration, and university-sanctioned student activities.
    Creating a Personal Address Book
Messenger gives you the option of creating your own address book(s). Perhaps you want to create an address book for vendors who call on you, or for colleagues from other universities. To create an address book:
  • From the Menu bar, select Communicator, then Address Book to view the Address Book dialog.
  • From the Address Book Menu bar, select File, then New Address Book.

Now that we have a basic idea of how XLink looks, it's time to dive into the details. This section presents all the constructs and rules contained in the XLink specification.
    Basics
XLink works by proving you with global attributes you can use to mark your elements as linking elements . In order to use linking elements, the declaration of the XLink namespace is required: Using the global attributes provided by XLink, one may specify whether a particular element is a linking element, and many properties about it (e.g., when to load the linked resources, how to see them once they are loaded, etc.).
