Philosophy is also a major contributor to the School's other taught MA programmes in Social and Political Theory, PPE and International Relations. There has been a flourishing faculty-run Philosophy Society since 1965, and the students also run their own philosophical society. Interdisciplinary seminar series for faculty and both graduate and undergraduate students are a regular feature of the School, as well as regular weekly evening meetings of the Philosophy Reading Group. The East Anglia Philosophy Triangle, which takes place twice a year, provides a meeting point at which philosophers from UEA, Cambridge and Essex give papers and exchange views in relaxed weekend meetings. The in-house journal UEA Papers in Philosophy, founded in 1993, publishes work in progress by UEA faculty and students and a number of essays by philosophers from other universities. The Centre for Research in Critical Thinking directed by Dr. Alec Fisher, is a unique institution in this country. Its focus is on teaching critical thinking, on transferable thinking skills and on general problem-solving skills. It maintains a network of international contacts, and is engaged in numerous projects commissioned by professional and academic bodies in Europe, North America and S. E. Asia. Dr. Fisher designed the recently introduced national AS level examination in Critical Thinking.

    JOHN POST's PHILOSOPHY PLACE
The real drama in philosophy remains where it has always been, in pairing the rage for order with delight in near chaotic variety. And the highest challenge is to express the two entwined, to express them by a harmony of argument and metaphor, of logic and passion, so that we may understand and respond with all that is best in us.

John Post is Professor of Philosophy, Emeritus, at Vanderbilt University. He has published in metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of language, logic, philosophy of science, meta-ethics, and philosophy of religion.
