    Undergraduate Program
Philosophy poses general questions concerning reality, knowledge, reasoning, language, and conduct. Frequently asked philosophical questions include: What is the ultimate nature of reality? What really exists and what is mere appearance? What, if anything, can be known, and how? What are the principles of correct reasoning? What is moral value? And what moral values should we adopt? Undergraduate courses in philosophy are designed to impart knowledge about these fundamental issues and main developments in analytic philosophy while strengthening students' logical and analytical skills. A major in philosophy develops abilities useful for graduate or professional work in many fields and for any situation requiring clear, systematic thinking. A major in philosophy requires at least 48 semester hours of coursework in philosophy including: (1) Background courses: Logic (3 cr), Metaphysics (3 cr), Epistemology (3 cr), Ethics (3 cr), Introduction to Philosophy (3 cr) and Critical Thinking (3 cr). Students must take all these courses.
