Travel to Austria with Cosmos Creative Climate
Austria is located in a temperate climatic zone with a Central European climate influenced by the Atlantic climate. The four seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter) each have typical temperature and climatic characters. Due to the topographical diversity and the relatively large West-East expanse, there are three differentiating climatic regions: East: Pannonian climate with a continental influence – low precipitation, hot summers but only moderately cold winters. General Geography
Area: 83,858 km2 Austria is located in southern Central Europe. It has common borders with Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The Austrian landscape points to a rich natural structure: High and central mountain regions, hill country and plains. The Alpine region (Eastern Alps, High Tauern, Carnican Alps, Southern Karawank mountains and parts of the Southern Alps) stretches from the West to the South to the Vienna Basin, and takes up approximately two thirds of the country's surface area. The western part of the country is mountainous while the east is hill country and flatlands which stretch to the Pannonian Plain in northern Burgenland. The highest mountain is the Grossglockner with 3,797 m, the major river is the Danube with an approximate length of 350 km in the Austrian area.

General Information about Geography
Poland is one of the larger countries in Europe (the land area 312, 638 sq. km making it the 9th largest country in Europe and the 66th in the world). The country is situated in very hart of Europe. It has a two-level administrative division: first is divided into 49 voivodships, which are then divided into 2,459 communes. The territory of Poland is compact and resembles a circle it lies in the basin of the Vistula (the longest Polish river - 1047 km) and Oder rivers, in the European Lowland and between the Baltic Sea and the arc of the Carpathian Mountains. Farthest to the south lies Oplonek Peak. Farthest to the north is the Rozewie Cape. The major historical cities like Warsaw, Cracow, Sandomierz, Kazimierz, Plock, Torun and Gdansk were built along the Vistula river. Modern architecture coexists with historical quarters that, like the Old towns in Warsaw and Gdansk, Cracow's center, and the market places of Kazimierz and Sandomierz, remember times from eight centuries ago. With recent changes in this part of continent Poland's neighbors are: to the east and north-east - Russia, Lithuania, Belorussia and Ukraine; to the south - Czech and Slovakia, and Germany to the west.

    BRAZIL: GEOGRAPHY
    General Overview
Map of Brazil's 5 Regions Additional Maps of Brazil Topographically speaking, the landscape of Brazil is characterized by two main features. In the north lies the Amazon River with its surrounding lowland basin of 1,544,400 sq. miles (4,000,000 sq. km). The Amazon Basin forms the largest rain forest in the world. In contrast to the Amazon Basin, a large plateau called the Central Highlands rises through the South. A network of high mountains runs from the south through the Northeast, dividing the interior from the Atlantic Ocean. Another interesting feature of the land is its extensive river system.
    Weather
F (19? C). Coastal cities such as Rio de Janeiro, Recife and Salvador have warm climates balanced by the constancy of the trade winds. Farther south, in cities such as Curitiba and Porto Alegre, the cooler subtropical climate resembles many areas of the U.S. and Europe, with winter temperatures often falling below freezing. Despite its reputation for blistering heat, the Amazon region rarely experiences temperatures above 90? F (32? C). The hottest part of Brazil is in the northeast where, in the dry season between May and November, temperatures above 100? F (38? C) are recorded frequently. The seasons in Brazil are the reverse of those in the U.S. and Europe:

Some Basic Information about the Geography Collection at the University of Chicago Library
The University of Chicago Library holds an excellent collection in most branches of human geography, as well as in urban studies and environmental studies. Areas of particular regional strength include North America, Europe, Russia and the former Soviet republics, and South Asia. Most of the collection is filed by call number in the stacks at the Joseph Regenstein Library. Certain reference materials and most unbound periodicals can be found in the Second Floor Reading Room ("RR2") of Regenstein. Some "scientific" materials are shelved in the John Crerar Library. Virtually all of the Library's holdings of books and serials are listed in its on-line catalog. Note that many monographic serials in geography are not "analyzed"; you must look them up by series name and number. Note also that some non-book titles, including most maps, are not cataloged at all. Most new materials in geography are "selected." Materials in general geography as well as geographical materials on North America, Western Europe, Latin America, Subsaharan Africa, and the Pacific are selected by the Bibliographer for Geography. Materials on the Middle East, South Asia, East Asia, and Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Republics are selected by area-studies bibliographers. Material on the classical world and the ancient Near East is selected by the Classics Bibliographer.

Single-sheet maps, which provide worldwide coverage at small and medium scales, are primarily general purpose and thematic maps of continents, countries, states, counties, and cities. Multi-sheet map series, which are usually prepared at large and medium scales, also provide worldwide coverage, normally at the country and state level. single-sheet maps This detail of the 1853 map of Wyoming County in the western part of New York State is typical of the large, wall-sized county maps that gained wide circulation in the northeastern United States before the Civil War. Published in Philadelphia by Newel S. Brown, this map provides coverage of the entire county showing township boundaries, roads, towns and villages, and names of land owners, as well as enlarged insets of the individual towns and villages and views of the more prominent landmarks and structures in the county. The richly decorated borders emphasize the rural and agricultural character of the county as well as the Native American origins of the county name.
