Considering Kerry Group for a career
Kay Kevlihan reports The Kerry Group employs 17,500 people throughout its manufacturing, sales and technical centres across Europe, North America, South America, Mexico/Central America, Australia, New Zealand and Asia Pacific. The Group offers global opportunities for graduates and valuable local employment opportunities in Ireland. Graduates interested in a career with the Kerry Group should make contact with the company over the next few weeks as the group's graduate requirements will be defined by early April. Kerry recruits up to 60 graduates internationally a year in a range of disciplines. The good news for Irish graduates is that two-thirds of Kerry's intake is from Ireland. With over 125 manufacturing plants in 15 countries and sales offices from Shanghai to South America, there is tremendous scope for movement within the group. Five thousand people are employed in the Republic and a further 800 in the North.
Recruitment procedure
Kerry's main recruitment method for graduates is through third-level presentations and direct application. This weekend there is also an opportunity to meet with human resources staff at the Kerry Group stand at Opportunities 2003, the career event at the RDS in Ballsbridge.

NEW! 2001 Grand Basin Award Winners About the awards
Farmers spend time, energy and hard-earned money carrying out conservation practices that benefit many people. They themselves benefit because nutrients, pesticides and chemicals soil necessary to grow crops also stays put because of conservation planting techniques. When these potential pollutants are kept out of surface and ground waters, citizens benefit by having better water for drinking, recreation, industry, wildlife and transportation. The winners are . . . If you are a farmer who is following all recommendations in your custom, site-specific nutrient management plan, you can be nominated to receive the Clean Water Farm Award or Bay Friendly Farm Award. The former is for farms located in areas of Virginia outside the Chesapeake Bay watershed; the latter is given to farms where conservation measures positively impact the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay. Previous Clean Water Farm Award local and state winners are eligible; you can win the award more than once.

General Livestock Judging Contest:

The General Livestock Judging Contest requires judgment ability to select/rank four animals from best to worst for either breeding purposes or sale of meat (slaughter) purposes. This contest involves three species: beef cattle, swine, and sheep. This skill is important when selecting animals that are ready for slaughter or as breeding animals. These animals should have the desired traits as sought by the meat animal industry and ultimately the consumer. Along with visual appraisal, this contest also adds performance data to some classes. This gives the judges some concrete information beyond what can be visually observed. In larger contest, this contest also requires oral reasons, which is a verbal justification for your placing. A perfect score on a class is "50".

Dairy Cattle Judging Contest:
The Dairy Cattle Judging Contest requires judgment ability to select/rank four animals from best to worst based on an industry "ideal". This skill is important when buying or culling animals that will be profitable. This selection process is based on visual appraisal as opposed to evaluation of milk performance data or DHIA records. In larger contests, this contest also requires oral reasons, which is a verbal justification for your placing. A perfect score is "50".
