TEXTILES AND FASHION DESIGN MANAGEMENT BSc (Hons)
UCAS CODE Route A - J4NM/Route B - E4NM NUMBER OF PLACES DURATION 4 years Honours, 3 years Ordinary THE COURSE FIRST TO THIRD YEAR FOURTH YEAR TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT ... CAREER PROSPECTS THE COURSE The course is not merely a design course with a token input of business studies, but one in which a management programme is integrated with creative studies. With the globalisation of textiles and fashion, many employers now demand flexible graduates with a breadth of design knowledge and an ability to manage design strategies.
The main focus is commercial design and the ability to appraise creative ideas within a business context. The course produces a broadly based design professional who can competently address the design process and manage design within a range of organisations. FIRST TO THIRD YEAR Students develop skills in fashion and textile design underpinned by marketing, merchandising, finance and design management.
These disciplines are developed through projects, which extend the student.s creative and problem solving powers, and develop the ability to present work in a professional manner. Fashion and textile production techniques are included in the above as well as a continuing programme of CAD skills.

These natural fibers come from plants, animals, and minerals. For most of history, people had only natural fibers to use in making cloth. But modern science has learned how to produce fibers by chemical and technical means. Today, these manufactured fibers account for more than two-thirds of the fibers processed by U.S. textile mills. Plants provide more textile fibers than do animals or minerals. Cotton fibers produce soft, absorbent fabrics that are widely used for clothing, sheets, and towels. Fibers of the flax plant are made into linen. The strength and beauty of linen have made it a popular fabric for fine tablecloths, napkins, and handkerchiefs.
The main animal fiber used for textiles is wool. Another animal fiber, silk, produces one of the most luxurious fabrics. Sheep supply most of the wool, but members of
