care of your ferret. Negative Traits ferrets are a highmaintenance pet - more sothan dogs and cats. They need a great deal of your time and attention.

Care of your ferret
General Information:

Ferrets are domesticated animals that are cousins of weasels, skunks and otters. They are NOT rodents. It is believed that ferrets were first domesticated by the Egyptians several thousand years ago. Ferrets will not survive in the wild, and are likely to die from dehydration or starvation within a few days.
Their behaviour and personality lie somewhere between those of cats and dogs. Some ferrets are cuddly and others are more independent - like other pets, they are individuals. The average size of a male ferret is 45 cm, and he normally weighs between 1.2 - 2.3 kg. The average female ferret weighs 0.5 - 1.2 kg and is 35 cm long. Positive Traits:
Ferrets are extremely playful with both humans and other ferrets, inquisitive, remarkably determined, and able to be trained e.g. to use kitty litter. They are very social, sleep for great lengths of time, adapt well to a harness, and can be kept in a cage so long as it is big enough. Negative Traits:
Ferrets are a high-maintenance pet - more so than dogs and cats. They need a great deal of your time and attention. Ferrets can be quite mischievous, get underfoot and love to dig up
