History
In 1944, Gaugler /1/ patented a lightweight heat transfer device which was essentially the present heat pipe. However, the technology of that period presented no clear need for such a device and it lay dormant for two decades. The idea was resurrected in connection with the space program, first as a suggestion by Trefethen /2/ in 1962 and then form a patent application by Wyatt in 1963. It was not until Grover
Bienert and Brennan
at Dynatherm /4/ and Marcus at TRW /5/.
The development of terrestrial applications of heat pipes progressed at a much slower pace. In 1968, RCA developed a heat pipe heat sink for transistors used in aircraft transmitters. This probably represented the first commercial application of heat pipes.
In the meantime, many other applications have firmly established that heat pipes can solve many critical problems in heat transfer and temperature control.
More details about heat pipe history can be found out from the following link, which is part of a site belonging to Los Alamos National Laboratory, USA:

INTRODUCTION
While interviewing lightweight backpackers, we discovered that the transition from practicing traditional methods and toting heavy gear to adopting a lightweight philosophy was often a gradual one. For example, we spoke to several people who "tested the waters" by replacing an occasional piece of their old gear with something lighter. Over some period of time, usually on the order of months to years, they transitioned to carrying a pack (less food and water) that weighed 10 or 20 pounds, thus entering the realm one might consider as "lightweight".

A School's Guide to Crisis Intervention
by Servio Carroll, Ed.S., NCSP, Crisis Intervention Team
Sheridan (WY) School District No. 2
Overview
A crisis happens when one's coping mechanisms are overwhelmed by a situation. This inability to cope is a potentially dangerous situation because, as our stress levels rise, our excitability and impulsivity increase and our coping mechanisms and behavior options sharply decrease. Crises usually happen following large changes or losses in a person's life. Potential crisis situations are separation from meaningful relationships (like in death or divorce), flunking out of school, moving to a strange town, birth of a new child in the family, loss of security, loss of freedom, etc. Crises are normal occurrences in everyday lives and most people experience and successfully cope with these situations. The experience strengthens one's ability to handle future similar situations.

Army Cadets The Army Cadet Program is the oldest of the three Cadet Programs. Adventure training is one of the many ways that Army Cadets remains a challenging program. Through active outdoor pursuits like trekking, canoeing, rock climbing and survival training, Army cadets gain valuable life skills, knowledge of themselves and an awareness of their environment.. Army cadets also learn about army traditions and participate in a variety of national and international expeditions that focus on adventure training, like whitewater rafting, horseback riding, and voyageur canoeing. Each year Army Cadet Adventure Expeditions involving hundreds of cadets are conducted across Canada. Past expeditions have been held in places like Iceland, Morocco, Australia and Mexico !!!
Local Training
Army Cadet training is divided into four star levels. Upon completion of the four levels, army cadets take part in the National Star Certification Exam (NSCE) which tests their practical and theoretical knowledge, as well as their ability to be good instructors.

Mardi Gras Basics T he proverbial "bottom line" is this: "The closer Mardi Gras matches your expectations, the better time you'll have." Now, having said that, we need to set your expectations as realistically as possible. If this is your first time attending the world's largest party, it's to your advantage to learn as much as possible BEFORE you go - and not the hard way like I did. I'll give you a brief overview of Mardi Gras itself, some tips on preparing for your trip, and basic "survival" tips to use when you get there. If you need more pointers and tips, I've included additional information on pages throughout the Mardi Gras Man's site. What is Mardi Gras? The name "Mardi Gras" means "Fat Tuesday" in French. Mardi Gras is always celebrated on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, with the idea being that you have an obligation to eat, drink, and be as merry as you possibly can before the Lent season of fasting and repentance sets in. The Lent season lasts from Ash Wednesday until Easter. Mardi Gras is a carnival. The name

Company Overview "ASEP is committed to improving amateur sport by encouraging coaches, officials, administrators, parents, and athletes to embrace the 'athletes first, winning second' philosophy and by providing the education to put the philosophy to work." Rainer Martens, PhD, ASEP founder What Is ASEP? ASEP, the American Sport Education Program, provides educational courses and books, videos, and software for coaches, officials, sport administrators, athletes, and parents of athletes. Through a partnership with the National Federation of State High School Associations , ASEP provides coaching education to more than 35,000 high school coaches each year, making ASEP the most widely used coaching education program in the United States. Thirteen national governing bodies for Olympic sport use ASEP's programs, and more than 200 colleges and universities teach ASEP courses or use ASEP resources. ASEP's Beginnings In the early 1970s, Rainer Martens, sport psychologist and physical education professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, was studying the psychological aspects of youth sport. Through his research, Martens determined that the best way to enhance athletes' sport experiences was to increase the preparedness of their coaches. As a result of his research, he founded the American Coaching Effectiveness Program (ACEP) in 1976, which later expanded into the American Sport Education Program (ASEP). ASEP is one of seven divisions of

    Emergency First Aid
Anyone who takes care of children should understand the basics of first aid. Injuries can happen any time, and the first few minutes can be critical. Even when an injury isn't serious, prompt and appropriate first aid can make the difference between a minor incident, quickly forgotten, and a frightening and upsetting one. This chapter gives a brief overview of what to do in a few basic emergencies; for more complete and extensive training, take a first-aid course from an agency such as the Red Cross. Even if you never have to deal with a serious situation, the training will change the way you handle day-to-day injuries and mishaps. Choking (Any Age)
If the baby or child can breathe or talk or cough, be reassuring but don't interfere; he or she will probably manage to cough up the obstruction. If you do an emergency maneuver on a child who doesn't really need it, you may do unnecessary damage. If the baby or child can't breathe or talk or cough, or makes only a faint wheezing or whistling sound

You might jump right into these links if you have the basics down, or if you would like to skip to information on Stafford Loans, PLUS Loans or Perkins Loans. It is important to consider all types of financial aid especially forms of aid that do not have to be repaid. While student loans are used by millions of students each year, everyone needs to exercise care in choosing how much to borrow and the loan program that best fits their circumstances. Government-sponsored Stafford Loans are a popular choice because they offer low interest rates, and you don’t have to start repaying them until you leave school. There are two kinds. The Subsidized Stafford Loan (for students who qualify for need-based financial aid) and the Unsubsidized Stafford Loan (for students who don’t demonstrate financial need).
