    What is Classical Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a system of health care which concentrates on care of the whole person by methods that are specific, gentle and sympathetic to the body's needs. The word "homeopathy" is derived from two Greek words: homoios (like) and pathos (suffering). The basic principal of homeopathy is that "like cures like", or that a substance that causes certain symptoms when taken in large doses can remove those symptoms when taken in minute, specially prepared forms. Because the substances used in homeopathy are extremely small, there are no side effects, adverse reactions, or contraindications.
How can a small dosage of a substance create change or have a long lasting effect on my system?
Homeopathic remedies can be thought to have a resonant effect on the body. Similar to the way in which a specific note, played on the violin in a specific octave, can have an effect on the molecular structure of a wine glass, the homeopathic remedy which exactly resonates with the symptom picture of an individual will have a catalytic effect, triggering a systemic response in the patient. The response is strengthening to the individual from the inside out. The remedy stimulates a return to balance which in turn helps the individual resist disease, and become more flexible in adapting to one's environment.

University of Washington Environmental Health and Safety Department Hazard Communication Fact Sheet for Office Staff November 2000 The Hazard communication Fact Sheet for Office Staff provides the hazard communication training for employees who work in the offices by alerting them to the potential hazardous substances that may be encountered in any office environment. Washington State Labor and Industries has an occupational safety and health standard called Hazard Communication (Right to Know) that requires that employees be informed about hazardous chemicals in the workplace through labeling, material safety data sheets (MSDSs), and training. A description of the University of Washington’s Hazard Communication Program is in the UW Operations Manual , Section D 12.5 at the University Reference Stations. Ask your supervisor for the location of the nearest Reference Station or consult the Reference Station Directory on the last page of the Faculty/Staff Directory. Employees in office environments work with a variety of products that may contain small amounts of hazardous chemicals. Safe exposure limits have been established for many hazardous chemical substances below which no adverse health effects are expected to occur. These limits are based on continuous exposure, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week throughout a working career. Since most office products are used intermittently and in small quantities, exposure to these products is not expected to exceed safe limits or produce adverse health effects. In addition, most of these products are consumer products and therefore meet the more stringent regulations for consumer product safety.

Devastating acts, such as the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, have left many concerned about the possibility of future incidents in the United States and their potential impact. They have raised uncertainty about what might happen next, increasing stress levels. Nevertheless, there are things you can do to prepare for the unexpected and reduce the stress that you may feel now and later should another emergency arise. Taking preparatory action can reassure you and your children that you can exert a measure of control even in the face of such events.
What You Can Do to Prepare
Finding out what can happen is the first step. Once you have determined the events possible and their potential in your community, it is important that you discuss them with your family or household. Develop a disaster plan together. 1. Create an emergency communications plan.

    Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs)
Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) can help you work safely with chemicals. They provide important information regarding health hazards associated with the use of chemicals. MSDSs also describe what safety precautions to take when working with a chemical and give emergency procedures for spills, fire, and first aid.
How to Read and Understand an MSDS
Although they may vary in appearance and length, MSDSs are required to have nine sections, which explain the proper ways to use, handle, and store chemicals in your work area. A description of the kinds of information each section contains follows:
    1.0 Chemical Identification
This section includes the chemical name, trade name, chemical formula and the chemical manufacturer's name, address and emergency phone number.
    2.0 Hazardous Ingredients
This section lists any hazardous ingredients found within the chemical. In this section you might also see the terms TLV (Threshold Limit Value) and PEL (Permissible Exposure Limit). Both terms are used to express the highest airborne concentrations of a chemical to which most persons can safely be exposed during a normal workday. The CAS (Chemical Abstract Service) numbers listed in this section identify specific chemicals according to information published by the American Chemical Society.

PROPOSED STANDARD ON SAFETY IN LOGGING AND SAWMILL OPERATIONS By Enrique Medina, MS, CIH This issue presents the third overview of recently released proposed Official Mexican Standards (NOMs in Spanish) issued by Mexico's Ministry of Labor and Social Security (STPS). These standards are currently undergoing revisions prior to publication as final rules. This month we feature Proposed Official Mexican Standard PROY-NOM-031-STPS-2000, Activities related to utilization of timber yielding forest resources and sawmills- Safety and health conditions. It was published on January 12, 2001 in the Official Journal of the Federation. This proposed standard is intended to establish the minimum safety conditions to protect forestry and sawmill workers from a variety of natural and occupational hazards. Natural hazards are defined as difficult terrain, insects, animals, weather conditions, and extreme temperatures. Work-related hazards involve falls, concussions, injuries from equipment and machinery, noise, and exposure to particulates. Sawmills also present exposures to noise, machinery and equipment, combustion sources, and material handling hazards. The NOM covers activities related to lumber production, such as logging and transportation to sawmills, as well as the processes related to preparation of commercial products, including debarking, measuring, sawing, sanding and kiln-drying operations.
