Terror Threat Level Elevated to "High Risk"
When the color-coded Homeland Security Advisory System was first adopted in March 2002, many Americans wondered what they could do to prepare themselves and their families in the event of an attack. To assist, the American Red Cross developed specific disaster readiness guidelines for individuals, families, neighborhoods, schools and businesses. Where to Start for Individual Preparedness
The first basic steps that should be taken include obtaining a copy of the Terrorism: Preparing for the Unexpected brochure, taking a First Aid/CPR/AED class and developing a disaster plan and a disaster suppli es kit When creating a disaster plan, families should identify an emergency contact and ensure that every family member has the number. After a disaster, it's often easier to call long distance, so the emergency contact should be located out-of-state. Individuals should also stock or check their disaster supplies kit, containing such items as water, a first aid kit, non-prescription drugs, sanitation items, plastic sheeting and tape. Locations/use of the fire extinguishers and alarm boxes. Potential hazards of the facilities, equipment and materials that they are working with or may be exposed to. Additional information and answers to safety questions may be obtained from supervisors or the Safety Unit.
4.2 Laboratory Hygiene and Safety Many accidents can be avoided by using common sense and good housekeeping practices. Keep work areas, aisles, corridors and exits open and uncluttered. Maintain clear access to emergency, electricity and water services. Clean-up as you go, and properly dispose of hazardous wastes. Report potentially unsafe conditions to your supervisor, instructor or the Safety Unit. Persons working in laboratories should follow these general guidelines, as well as specific safety rules in accordance with their experimental conditions: General Guidelines Inform the security services at the gate (ext. 3515) when working in the laboratory outside work-hours, and before leaving.

25 CLOCK HOURS

Knowledge of anatomy and physiology is the foundation for giving effective and safe massage therapy. Students learn about body organization, anatomical terminology, and the muscular and skeletal systems of the human body. Identifying the locations of the major muscles and bony landmarks enhances the ability to perform massage with specificity and to avoid endangerment sites. An understanding of normal anatomy provides a basis for further study of common musculo-skeletal pathologies. (Prerequisite: none)
A NATOMY AND P HYSIOLOGY 2 25 CLOCK HOURS Students continue their study of the structure and function of the major systems of the human body. These include the integumentary, nervous, endocrine, digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular, lymphatic, urinary, and reproductive systems. The benefits, indications, contraindications, and cautions related to massage therapy are reviewed for each system. Common system pathologies are discussed. (Prerequisite: AP1) B ASIC S PORTS M ASSAGE (BSM) 20 CLOCK HOURS Basic Sports Massage gives students the knowledge and skills to safely, and effectively, perform massage prior to and following an athletic event or training session. Kennedy University (JFKU) recognizes that many students have difficulty financing their education while meeting other financial responsibilities. To help qualified students attain their educational goals, the university provides assistance through its Financial Aid Office. Aid is intended to help students who might otherwise be unable to attend school, or who, with aid, can take additional courses and graduate at an earlier date. John F. Kennedy Univeristy is able to offer financial assistance only to US citizens, permanent residents, and students from specific US territories. How much will my education cost? Costs for tuition, fees, books and supplies vary depending on the number of units taken. The standard student budget also includes allowances for indirect educational costs (such as room and board, transportation and miscellaneous personal expenses) that are based on the average expenses of JFKU students. Tuition costs vary by program and location; contact the Financial Aid Office for up-to-date figures.
