Material Safety Data Sheet Searches
Important Notice 5/10/99 : The searchable index of MSDS sheets maintained at the University of Utah Department of Chemistry has been eliminated. In their words, the database was outdated and limited in scope. For several years, the NWFSC server only provided a simple search form for those MSDS sheets; we did not physically store the MSDS sheets on our server. As is the case for the University of Utah, we do not manufacture chemicals and so do not have the right or the responsibility to maintain a public database. Currently, most major chemical vendors have posted links to MSDS sheets, and it is suggested that individuals and companies seeking MSDS information visit those web sites . Some starting points are listed at the bottom of this page. This page will still be available for searches of the Vermont SIRI database Search results will open a new browser window and from that point on, you will be using their system The NWFSC is not responsible for any out-dated MSDS sheets that your search returns! Fisheries and Aquaculture
Commercial harvesting activities in British Columbia, whether they be the commercial harvest of wild species, or the raising of aquatic species on farms, are a vital element of the economy of the province.
Aquaculture
Aquaculture is a significant contributor to the provincial economy, and most aquaculture jobs are located in coastal communities. With its climate, good water quality and sheltered bays, British Columbia's coastline is well suited for both finfish and shellfish aquaculture. In 2000, the farmgate value of the salmon, shellfish and trout sectors combined was $295 million. Farmed salmon is B.C.'s largest agricultural export product. There are three groups of species currently cultured in British Columbia waters:
Commercial Fisheries
Commercial fisheries are also a significant contributor to the provincial economy and the social fabric of numerous coastal communities. This industry includes the commercial harvesting of more than 80 different species of finfish, shellfish, and marine plants from both freshwater and marine environments. For further information on the various commercial fishing activities and licences, click on the link below:

Fisheries Provincial Historic Shares
Tracing the genesis of the concept of provincial historic shares is equivalent to tracing the history of our presence in the Atlantic fisheries. Although the expression "provincial historic shares" corresponds to the recent development of Canadian fisheries management, the concept originated in the more distant past, a quick examination of which would be worthwhile. The document looks at the customs and practices that give this concept greater legitimacy.
