Spring at Historic Spanish Point
Spring is a wonderful time at Historic Spanish Point. The weather provides perfect opportunities for observing the wonders of spring. Lush new growth on all the oak, mulberry and hickory trees throughout the site is refreshing after a particularly cold winter. The new plantings at White Cottage are filling in nicely, so be sure to come and take a look. The sweet acacia at the entrance to White Cottage is full of yellow flowers. Marlberry still has plenty of small purple marble like fruit that is eaten by a variety of birds. Several agaves put up their impressive flower spikes, one at the Guptill house can still be seen. When visiting the site, look and listen for Ospreys, like the one Nancy Lichtenstein captured on film near the Point Cottage. We will soon be seeing flowers on the magnolia at the picnic area, pink flowers on the Jamaican caper trees at the southern end of the footbridge and the beautiful white flowers on the saw palmettos throughout the historic Spanish Point. Come for a visit soon!

State Major Programs are identified by State Program Leaders in collaboration with faculty, appropriate Department Chairs and Extension Administration, and are based on county programs. In general, for a program to be identified as a "State Major Program," several county programs in the state must be focusing on the same problem or issue. Once a program has been labeled "State Major Program," a Design Team is established.
