Hello ! Are you interested in Forest ? No problema, there are Summer practical forestry courses ! This is a perfect occasion to have an field experience among the Finnish Forest !! These courses are for the finnish forestry students which are in the 1st year. These field courses will be done in a biological station in Hyytiälä between May and August . The courses can be done in english if some exchange students are interested, and more we are more interested it will be ! Hyytiälä is a wonderful place in the middle of the nature. In fact, the area is pleasant and peacefull. In addition, you have many activities for your leisure time (saunas, football, tennis...). I don't know exactly the precise price but i can tell you that the food and the accomodation are cheap (probably around 10 euros/day for both). The programme of these different field courses is : Silviculture (3 weeks) 2) Entomology (1 week) 3) Peatland forestry (2 weeks) 4) Forest management planning (3 weeks) 5) Forest technology (3 weeks) This programme is facultatif, but the outline is there. If you want more informations about the Forestry field station just go to :

Vocational Certificate in Forestry - Level 2
This one year course, accredited by the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC), is offered at the Teagasc Agricultural College, Ballyhaise, Co. Cavan. Forestry is a significant growth area in Irish agriculture with about 12,000 hectares being planted each year. Over the past 10 years up to 150,000 hectares have been planted by over 10,000 landowners. Planting trees and maintaining forests are highly mechanised but labour intensive activities with a high demand for trained personnel. This course provides the training for people who wish to take up these jobs in forestry as workers and supervisors. Jobs in the area are readily available and pay rates are good. There is no minimum educational entry requirement for the course but students who have completed the Leaving Certificate are likely to benefit most from it. Applicants must be over 17 years on 1 October in the year of entry to the course. On successfully completing the course students may progress to the Vocational Certificate in Forestry - Level 3 or go directly into employment.

Education, Training and Advocacy The original focus of VDT's work was environmental awareness relating to community timber resources and the training of villagers in the process of small scale sustainble forestry. VDT quickly became recognized within Papua New Guinea and through out the South Pacific as a leader in eco-forestry training and advocacy. Over the last 7 years VDT has delivered more than 60 courses, work shops and trainings to over 1600 participants. 95% of these participants were village residents. Currently VDT provides the following forestry courses and workshops: Small Scale Sustainable Forestry Courses : Many of these 3-week training courses are conducted in partnership with the Timber Industry Training College in Lae. The VDT portion includes both the theory and practical adoption of small-scale forestry operations. A portion of the time is spent in the field at different VDT village partner projects. While VDT's partnership with TITC is continuing, the new training facility at Kamiali will allow an expansion of these courses; it will also increase the opportunity for more village residents from along the Morobe Coast and other parts of Papua New Guinea to benefit from attendance at such trainings. Resource Awareness Workshops: These 3-day workshops are conducted in different regions of Papua New Guinea and offer village communities the opportunity to discuss what is happening to the country's forests and consider the question: "What are you doing about it?" These workshops encourage people to share their perspectives and draw on the positive and negative results within communities through out Papua New Guinea. A major objective of the course is for people to consider alternative methods for developing their resources and to support them in taking appropriate actions.
