Foster Parents give a wonderful gift to our children, they give themselves. Trainingand support is provided by the childplacing agency for the foster family.
http://www.starranch.org/foster_parenting.htm
WE'RE LOOKING FOR A PLACE IN YOUR HEART ... Where do children, who are removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect, go to live? In homes just like yours. The State of Texas removes children from their homes every day due to abuse and neglect. These children need loving, supportive, and caring families to care for them during this time of need. Star Youth Homes feels that children are very precious and the care of children that have been abused and neglected requires a deep faith and commitment. Foster Parents give a precious gift to a child and that gift is the warmth of a home, the security that someone is there to protect them and the direction toward developing an abiding faith in God. Foster families are given stipends which are used to care for the child, and the child placing agency provides training, therapy, record keeping and monitoring to help the foster family meet state requirements. Through a specialized training program, Star Youth Homes is able to provide foster parents with the tools to care for children who have emotional barriers, difficulty relating with peers and adults, and behavioral difficulties. We are looking for Christian families to open their hearts and homes to help children in need. Star Programs was founded by Rand and Colleen Southard in 1989 in Ingram, Texas. Their vision was to provide a summer camp for learning disabled, behaviorally challenged children. Star Ranch summer camp now serves 230 children each summer with fun activities and academic development.

During the spring and summer months each year, many kittens and puppies are abandoned by their mothers, or relinquished by their owners.
When young animals are separated from their mother, they have little chance of surviving without loving foster parents. Depending on the age and number of animals, the role of foster parent can be very demanding, but can also be very rewarding.
Military Pet Owners
Check out Netpets.Org for help with placing your animals in temporary foster care! Fostering an animal waiting for a permanent home can be a fun and rewarding experience. NCHS will provide all the supplies needed for fostering: cages or crates, food, and litter. All you need to provide is the love and care. You will be interviewed to determine your home situation and what type of foster pet would work out best for you. Fostering, in addition to providing an animal with much needed love and attention, allows us to evaluate the animal's temperament and habits. This knowledge helps us to make better decisions as to a permanent home.
Sometimes fostering involves caring for an animal for a week or two following a medical procedure or administrating medication to treat a condition requiring more frequent attention than would be possible in the shelter environment. For example, it might require ear drops or eye drops 3-4 times a day, or just caring for a pet with a bandaged leg.

Reach Out Be a Foster Family. However, when this is not possible, a childmay be admitted into Foster Care through the Children's Aid Society.
http://www.peelcas.org/foster parenting.htm
Foster Parenting Reach Out...Be a Foster Family Our goal is to keep children with their own families by providing them with needed support. However, when this is not possible, a child may be admitted into Foster Care through the Children's Aid Society. We have 145 foster families in the Region of Peel but with the growing number of children entering into care we need even more loving and safe foster homes. What is Foster Care? A child may be separated from his or her own parents for a variety of reasons and will need a temporary place to live. Foster parents provide a stable and supportive home environment that will encourage growth and development for a child. In many cases, a Foster Home is the first loving, warm environment that the child will experience. Foster children range in age from infancy to 16 years. They come from a variety of racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds. A child may be in foster care anywhere from a few hours to an extended period of time. Why be a Foster Parent?
  • Improve the quality of life for a child Obtain professional development Enhance your skills so that you can enrich a child's life Network with other foster parents for support in the care process Work as part of the team integrating the child back into his or her family
Support for Foster Parents
  • Financial reimbursement that covers the cost of daily care for the child Training and educational opportunities Regular professional support from social workers Mutual support and networking between foster parents

As if regular parenting weren't enough for us, we've decided to go down the road of being foster parents. Essentially, here is the process:
  • Contact the DFS Agency Receive a visit from them as they drop off all of the paperwork Bring the house up to the necessary standards (post emergency numbers, fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, etc., etc.) Fill out all kinds of background paperwork, get references Go to nine weeks worth of classes and do the homework assigned as part of that. Do 5 home studies with a case worker (about 2 hours apiece) Wait to get a call that you have a kid coming. Open your home for the next couple of years.
I think this is going to be a really cool experience for us, although I'm hoping it doesn't age us too fast. Looking forward to seeing how I / we respond to the challenges presented with these kids as they, in many cases, have gone through all kinds of different abuses (those of which I can only imagine). Wrote about 12 pages worth of stuff for the assessment process recently. You can see my

Foster Parents
Do you enjoy early morning bottle feedings... have the patience to understand an animal that's been abused... or gentle enough to coax an underweight creature to take a bite or two? Foster parents are needed when an animal that comes into the shelter isn't quite ready to be adopted out yet. This could be because they are sick or injured, perhaps too young, or possibly a pregnant mother. Foster parents give them nurturing attention until they are ready to visit the PetSmart mobiles and be adopted into a family of their own. I'm Interested! Please Send me an Informational Packet! Foster Family Care

The Windsor Essex Children's Aid Society is one of over 50 child welfare agencies in Ontario. Our mandate under the Child and Family Services Act is to provide protective services to children and youth and support their families. When there are serious concerns about the care a child is receiving at home, he or she may need to be placed in a foster home. About fostering Some children and youth can't live at home because of family problems. Most of these children and youth live with foster families for several months, often with a brother or sister in the same foster home. Foster families care for and nurture youngsters until they go home or a permanent plan is made for them. Such a plan may include adoption or long-term care in a foster home where they can grow up securely. Many foster children are very close to their families and visit them regularly.

Foster Parenting
Does it Hurt a Marriage?
We received a note recently asking us what we thought about a couple being foster parents. Many years ago, the two of us were foster parents for children ranging in age from infants to 18. The problems we encountered were: not having enough information about the children being placed in our home
tight finances
lot of time spent driving the children to their counseling sessions no respite care available dealing with physically sick children and emotionally abused children on a continual basis coping with difficult biological parents not enough sleep no privacy or alone time for the two of us older kids hurting younger children We were involved in the foster care program for several years. Inspite of problems such as the ones we listed, it was a rewarding experience most of the time.

NATIONAL FOSTER PARENT APPRECIATION DINNER
May 16, 1998 Let me express my appreciation personally, as well as on behalf of Freddie Mac and the Freddie Mac Foundation, where foster are and adoption efforts are very high priorities. With a half million children in U.S. foster care, the need for foster care and adoption services is urgent. We are here to thank and honor you for making the commitment to help "somebody else’s child," and for putting in the day-to-day work — without fuss, fanfare or glory — to piece and hold young lives together. This cannot be an easy choice or a simple commitment to make. Yet, you are doing it. It has to be a challenging road full of unexpected twists and turns, and bumpy spots galore. Yet, you are traveling it. And we are certainly grateful that you are. For without your love, dedication and commitment to these special children, bad situations would become much worse, and the worst would be simply unthinkable. Societal problems are on the rise, disrupting homes and causing more children to be taken from their homes. These removals are always stressful, often traumatic, and frequently messy. There is bound to be fear, uncertainty, and a great deal of emotional upheaval.

HOW DO I BECOME A FOSTER PARENT? There are some prerequisites to becoming a foster parent. The most important is the desire to show love to a child whose life may have been without the benefit of a caring family environment. Once that desire to serve is established in the mind and heart of an individual or couple, the remaining requirements include, but are not limited to:
  • Must be financially self-supporting. Complete a series of forms. Attend an 8-hour orientation training program taught by the Koinonia staff.
All adults in the home must be fingerprinted and obtain a criminal record clearance and a child abuse index clearance. Have a TB test, showing negative results. Obtain a general health clearance. Water Safety Training is necessary if there is a body of water such as a pool, spa or pond on the property, or if the children swim in an area where there is no lifeguard on duty. A current DMV printout showing proof of a valid driver’s license.

Take it from a single mom who raised two boys on her own. They are now both grown and are both born again Christians. Raising my two boys has been, so far, the most rewarding experience in my life, other than meeting and serving my Lord Jesus Christ. There are thousands of children around the world waiting to be adopted. Thousands more are waiting for a decent foster home. As an Adoption Social Worker in the state of New York, I know there is an incredible shortage of decent foster/adoptive homes for these children. If you should decide to be a foster parent instead of adopt, think of the opportunity to introduce these children to the unconditional love of our Savior Jesus Christ. If you have done your job properly, even if these children return to a less than perfect home, they will know someone loves them unconditionally and they may even lead their parents to Christ. For single women, there is a program in some states where they can foster a pregnant teenager and then help her raise her baby. For single men, how about being a foster father for a teenage boy who may never have met a decent Christian man?

    The Rewards of Foster Parenting
Foster care. This was not my husband's idea of fun bringing in kids from troubled homes with broken hearts and fractured childhoods. Would these kids teach "bad ideas" to ours? Would we have people stalking us wanting their kids back? Would we ourselves be falsely accused of mistreating a foster child? No, I told him, it would be fun, fun, fun. I was a foster kid until I was emancipated as an adult. I had wonderful foster parents that gently guided me through my high school years. I felt ready to give back what I had received. Gary and I went through MAPP, we loved it, learned lots, and became "Professional Parents". We received our first placement. A 6 month old baby boy who had a 14 year old mom. This placement gave us the opportunity to be broken in as foster parents. After a year and a successful reuniting with his mom we were ready for our next experience. And what an experience! I was asked to take in a 16 year old teen girl and her 5 month old baby boy. Would I be interested? Yes! Having been a teen mom myself, I thought this would be a breeze as far as being able to understand her and communicate with her. Well, it took a very long time to understand her and even longer to be able to communicate. Mary had come from a home where she had been emotionally and physically abused and abandoned. She planned her pregnancy to give her the sense of family so many teen girls are looking for. Her baby, Daniel, was a beautiful brown eyed boy that was easy to fall in love with. We were ready to include them in our family. But, Mary didn't want a new family, she had everything she felt she needed in Daniel and Daniel's father Mike. Her relationship was never accepted by her family and she had no idea or desire to bring together her life with Mike and us.
