Walk for Hospice
Ahhh spring! As the weather breaks we head outside to walk off some of that "winter weight." Here's an opportunity to use those shoes and raise some money for a great cause. The 8th Annual Walk For Hospice is being held on Saturday April 26 at the Garrett 8 Cinemas. Registration begins at 9 am and the walk will commence at 10 am. Organizers have provided both a 1-mile or three-mile journey. It's your choice!!! Just collect your pledges and be at the Garrett 8 Cinemas the morning of the event. Prizes are awarded to both the top team and top individual fundraisers. Top teams (2-4 walkers) will choose from a Disney World Package, a NASCAR racing package or a limo trip and dinner for four at Uno's. The top individuals will choose from a computer; camcorder or Playstation. If you don't want to walk, come enjoy the morning anyway with a special show by the Garrett County Sportaerobic Team at 9:30 am. There will also be face painting and a visit from Grimace of McDonald's. Hospice of Garrett County, Inc. provides total in-home or home-like health care for terminally ill patients with six months or less to live if the disease follows its normal progression. Hospice provides home health care, nurses, social workers, volunteer caregivers, dietary counseling, medical supplies, equipment, medications, and short-term or respite care as needed at no cost to the patient or family members. Following a patient's death, Hospice of Garrett County provides bereavement services and support to family members and caregivers for up to 12 months.

Lucille's hood drops into place with a metallic thud. Her checklist of mechanical readiness complete. Fluid levels, suspension, electrical, tire pressure and a good close-up look beneath her for leaks and worn parts. Her windows cleaned, gas tank filled and her seat belts operational. I've checked my radio for channel one transmissions, my pockets for lifesavers, my backpack for water and first aid items. Complete the paperwork for the mechanic, noting Lucille's oil is dirty. Lucille and I are ready for another Sedona adventure. Lucille is a 20-year-old Toyota Land Cruiser. She has spent her life four-wheel-driving passengers into rugged terrain. I am a transplant to Arizona from New Jersey. Like many of the tour guides in Sedona, my background is in environmental studies and science. Together, Lucille and I spend our days providing wilderness excursions into the Coconino National Forest. Whether a rough and tumble off-road four-wheeling experience in the sparse desert arroyos, a calm inner spiritual journey to one of the much-publicized Vortex sites, or a visit to Native American ruins to view ancient pictographs and petroglyphs, there is a tour to fit any and all interests and personalities.

47. Custer's Web Site
to home (about an hour), we do a lot of our fourwheeling in the to improve thepublic image of what has become one of our favorite recreational activities.
Welcome to Our Web Site!
Hello... welcome to our web site! Come on in... stay awhile... and make yourself at home. My name is Don Custer. My wife's name is Darlene. We live near the small town of Rockwell NC ( about an hour NE of Charlotte ). Some folks would refer to us as an average middle-aged couple, while others our age, who are aware of our hobbies and activities, would likely be a bit more inclined to simply avoid the subject all together. We'll let you decide for yourself. Anyway, we are middle aged, still of reasonably sound mind ( we hope ), and so far in good health. Darlene and I were both born and raised in the Eastern-Ohio / Western-Pennsylvania area of the country. We moved here in June of 1985, and we plan to spend the rest of our lives here. We love North Carolina and think it's a darn nice place to live. We were married in January 1973 and we have two sons. They are both married, and presently we have four grandchildren. Darlene and I have done a lot of things together over the years and we have shared a wide variety of interests. As we look back over those years it becomes very obvious that virtually everything we have ever been seriously involved in has, in some way or other, been centered around nature and our love of the outdoors. This still holds true today as we have become quite involved and active in the Four Wheel Drive Community. We have been members of the Carolina Trailblazers 4WD Club, Inc.

By Del Albright I am proud of this organization. CA4WDC can really put on a show! The Sierra Trek was another notch in our successful history of great family fun. Not only fun, the 32 nd First of all, the event was well organized and fun; even-though it had to be post-poned from the original dates. I’ve seldom witnessed such volunteer enthusiasm as we had on Trek. The Thursday short wheel base run even had volunteer staffing on some of the winch hills in spite of the fact that they didn’t even have to "volunteer" for that day. My hat went off to those hard working clubs that adopt winch hills. I’m also a fan of "Uncle Willie" who seems to relish in putting on a great Thursday run every year. Base camp was its usual neat and tidy self. Food was excellent and the entertainment was great fun. The Trek committee does one heck of a fantastic job with this huge event. Second, Trek is really a family event that draws us all together – young and old. The kids are as much a part of four wheeling as the adults on this adventure. There were even miniature "jeeps" (battery powered) that executed some pretty cute maneuvers around camp. Kids helped with the snack bar and were the first ones on the dance floor when the band started up. This kind of outdoor fun really brings out the best in a family, if you ask me. I saw more dirty, but smiling faces on kids than you could shake a South Park tee shirt at. It was the smiles I’ll remember.

Before Winnemucca assemblyman Phil Tobin's 1931 gambling bill was approved in Nevada, his town existed as a sleepy wagon crossing and mining site. After gaming's meteoric ascent, Tobin's prophecy seems to have come true: "Nevada would be a place today where people hurry through if the [gambling] bill had not been passed." The growing town of Winnemucca boasts large casinos, varied recreational activities, and a distinctive Old West charm that fueled it most recent wave of reinvention. Today, the buckaroo crowd is older: Winnemucca tourism is all about the AARP, the retirement lifestyle, and the nickel slots, dawn to dusk and dusk to dawn. Overview Since opening in 1992 The Apple Tree Golf Course, renowned for its' superior layout, manicured grounds, spectacular views, and five-star service, has become one of the premiere golf destinations in the state of Washington.
The Apple Tree Restaurant has been an award-winning provider of fine dining to the consumer featuring delicious meals in a one of a kind setting since 1992.
In the same spirit of quality and excellence we are pleased to announce the availability of home-sites and condominiums within the Apple Tree Resort Community.
Future Plans Apple Tree to Become a Destination Resort To accomplish this goal, we plan to expand to 36-holes of championship golf including a premier gated community of the finest single family homes, golf front town homes with spectacular views, vacation condominiums, a retirement village featuring a par-3/executive 9-holes of golf, and a Lodge to accommodate guests, conventions, and business retreats. Tennis, swimming, guided outdoor adventures such as fly-fishing, river rafting, horseback riding, hiking/ biking, four-wheeling, snow-mobiling, and tours of the prestigious Yakima Valley wineries. To facilitate the expansion, Apple Tree is providing private funding to extend the sewer trunk line to service not only our development, but the needs of many in the surrounding areas as well. By providing a solution to the sewer and water problems in the Ahtanum/Wiley City area, potential commercial, residential, and industrial expansion can now occur. This summer, Apple Tree will widen Occidental and 96th Avenue to three lanes. In addition, interior private roads and infrastructure will be also developed for the resort community.

52. The Collins Companies: Forest Management (page 14)
Other common summer activities are fishing, camping (limited on the Pacific CrestTrail, fourwheeling, trail bikes The recreational use of the Collins Almanor
An Environmental Softwood Fores
There are many recreational opportunities on the Collins Almanor Forest (CAF) which are available as a direct result of the construction of over 680 miles of roads by Collins Pine Company. These roads were developed for logging operations, forest protection and timber management on the CAF. Motorized access is basic to all the more popular recreational activities such as sight seeing and the enjoyment of the beautiful forest environment created by prudent forest management and careful logging practices. The many varieties of wildflowers, forest vistas, and wildlife enhance an uplifting experience. Deer, bear, raccoons, coyotes, rabbits, beaver, squirrels, ducks, geese, quail, grouse, dove, and many song birds gambol about the forest. Our logging road system is used to access one of the Ishi Wilderness trailhead. The historic Lassen Trail and the old Humboldt and Humbug wagon roads run through the property and are sometimes used by those who wish to retrace these pioneer pathways. Some other, less well-known, roads traversing the Forest are the Cherry Ranch Road, Mosquito Ridge Road, and Homer Lake Trail. Other common summer activities are fishing, camping (limited to 14-days), hiking, backpacking on the Pacific Crest Trail, four-wheeling, trail bikes and All-Terrain-Vehicle adventuring, horseback riding, canoeing, rafting, kayaking, picnicking, bird watching, butterfly collecting, and gold panning.

53. The Rocky Mountain Big Wheels Association
To promote safe recreational four wheeling while assisting in communicationsbetween drivers and authoritative figures. Events and activities.
Promoting the fun and safe use of off-highway vehicles through education.
Calgary, Alberta, Canada
The Rocky Mountain Big Wheels Association was incorporated as a non-profit society on March 9, 1994 . The association was formed by a group of four-wheel drive enthusiasts for four reasons:
  • To fight the negative image that the public held of four-wheelers. To educate the public that " big tires " are safe. To provide more opportunities for off-roading and family fun. To educate trail users about the importance of safety and responsibility when off-roading.
The Rocky Mountain Big Wheels Association realizes that the future use of off-highway vehicles is in jeopardy. Government initiatives such as Special Places 2000, abuse of OHV areas by uneducated individuals, lack of public awareness and over zealous environmentalists threaten to close the few off-roading areas that exist.
The Rocky Mountain Big Wheels Association is continually working with Land and Forest Services of Alberta Environmental Protection, other user groups (4x4, dirt bike, snowmobile, equestrian, etc.). Our collective goal is to enhance and further the process of educating both the public and other users about proper, sustainable use of our off-road areas.
The Rocky Mountain Big Wheels Association believes that EDUCATION is the key to achieving this objective. We promote strong four-wheel drive ethics, including environmental awareness, while encouraging fun and safe four wheeling within our membership.

Moab was a sleepy town until the mad craze for uranium in the 50’s. It was during this time that most of the roads and trails in the backcountry were made. Most of these were mining exploration roads. People rose and fell in the uranium rush. When driving in from the North, as you come into Moab you will notice a house on the hillside. Now a restaurant called the Sunset Grill, this was once the home of Charlie Steen. Charlie made his fortune by discovering the Mi Vida deposit in the Lisbon Valley.
