Welcome! Please read this before applying... You will NEED to have a web site that is survival, preparedness, or outdoors related to join this ring. Do it yourselfer sites are also encouraged to apply. Basically, anything that encourages self reliant or frugal living is acceptable. If at all possible, PLEASE put the ring code at the bottom of your MAIN page. It makes it so much more enjoyable for people to travel around the ring that way, and our ring will also grow faster by doing it like that as well! Also, put the web ring banner code on THE same page that you register with us. Please do not give us one page and put it on a different one! :) By all means, please store the banner image on your own server if you can. As fast as these dot.coms are going broke, it is a very wise move. That way you may not have to tamper with your code again in the future. :) Remember this! The web ring site ID is "preparedness." Your site ID will be a number e-mailed to you. You choose your own password. Unfortunately, if you take the ring code back off of your site after it is accepted, your site will be removed from the ring. PLEASE people, e-mail me when you have put the ring code on your site, so I will know when to check it out. That will help to get you connected quicker! :)

Cyberfolk Friendly Guided Web Site Tours
A Tightwad's Guide to Frugal Living Host Pat Veretto When I was a kid, my favorite daydream was finding an old house with no water, or electricity, or heat. I would walk the highway, finding fantastic amounts of popcans to cash in so I could fix it up. Later in life, I had the opportunity to put my dreams into practice. To my surprise, frugal living actually worked. Anyone can live better for less, and enjoy it all the while. Talk of the Nation If you'd like to hear an interview with Amy Dacyczyn (pronounced 'decision'), the queen of tightwaddery herself, a RealAudio interview is available. For those who may only have a passing knowledge of the 'frugal' or 'tightwad' movement, Amy was the founder of the popular 'Tightwad Gazette', which has, alas, been laid to rest. The enormous popularity of the newsletter contributed to its end; according to Amy...it simply got to be too much. The Unofficial Tightwad Gazette Fan Club Home Page Does Amy have a fan club? Maybe an unofficial one...at least thats what the site is called. The page focuses more on frugal living success stories rather than tips and ideas. It's a great place to go for inspiration, or to use a proof to convince someone else (or yourself)! Tight-wadding with Doris O'Connell The famous tightwadmama is online, too. The site includes the complete text of the Tightwad Frugal Newsletter for all issues. Look for such tantalizing pages as Homestead, Tightwad Homelife and Over the Garden Fence. Enough to keep you tightwadding for a long time!

My Guest Book
Dear Folks These writings are meant to be a diary of a "Oklahoma Planes woman" before and after the year 2000. As some earlier diaries were during the pioneer days this one too is hastily comprised, and of notes jotted down in a hurried way. For these there is no editing on my part. I often wish we could read the original manuscripts of some other stories written. This will be your pleasure and privilege in this my "diary" like recordings. Names have been changed in some instances to protect my friend's and family's privacy.
Please forgive me for doing a thank you page like this. I hope you will understand my time is so very limited at the moment. Grandchildren, four, one, and eight years, my daughter in the wheel chair and caring for all that has to be done here since my husband went back to work for a while. Alastair has been kind enough to list my poems right along and this has been the way I have tried to take some time to share bits and pieces of things going on with me. There have been wonderful comments on that guest book and I feel so honored to have been given the opportunity to provide a small pleasure for good people.

Our natural homemade soaps are handcrafted with the highest quality olive, coconut and palm oils with pure essential and fragrance oils, herbs and spices. We mix the soap in small batches using the cold process method, then hand cut and cure each bar for mildness. Rich in skin softening glycerin, our soap has a creamy lather that will turn any bath or shower into a treat. Absolutely no animal fats, products or testing, we make a pure vegetable soap ( from scratch, NOT melt and pour base) that's wonderful to use. It's interesting to know that the "soap" you buy in the store is usually a detergent bar, not actual soap. These detergent bars are made with petroleum products and the valuable glycerin is skimmed off and sold. This is why your skin often feels tight, dry or itchy after you use it. Think you're allergic to soap? You're probably sensitive to all of the chemicals in the detergent bar. Try a bar of natural soap and feel the difference.
Checks or money orders are also welcome!

To browse visit Here It was Spring 2000, the winter had been the usual mixture of cold, damp, general depression and time
to think 'where am I going'.
The highlights of that winter had been watching Hugh Fearnley Whittingshalls brilliant 'Escape to River
Cottage' on Channel 4 and reading the book 'Home Farm' by Paul Heiney.
I was 52 at the time, born in Sevenoaks, Kent, I was destined for a suit, shirt and tie job and had lived
up to that expectation by working for 24 years in Advertising, Marketing, Retail and finally, 11 years as
a Conductor Manager for the Connex Rail Company.
For a couple of years I'd been re-focusing my private time, had attained three chickens, a medium size
vegetable plot, acquired a couple of greenhouses and 'wheeled and dealed' a bit at Auctions and Boot
Fairs. Professionally, I found myself changing from getting up in the mornings and bouncing off to work, to waking up with the 'Oh no, it's not the weekend' thought.

"Off The Wall" ~ Country Life I've been asked what I do aside from stalking Bakers (genealogy) what I'm like as a person, and my interests... I spend a lot of time at my Uncles' cabin in Missouri. I've found total peace by being there and enjoying the simple things in life. The cabin is heated by a huge fireplace and the first "simple" thing I learned to appreciate was my gas furnace back home! (The wind chill factor on the river is 10 degrees colder than in town.) To appreciate my new love, you have to realize a few things... I am 5'4" weigh 100 lbs. soaking wet, and HATE cold weather with a passion!! The cabin is built on a hillside, the back facing the river. It was built for Summer use only ~ or Eskimos that brought their own igloo! You walk into a cabin that has: 2 bedrooms and living room upstairs, a full basement with kitchen/bath downstairs and a MONSTER fireplace that eats wood like it's free. By the way, during the Winter months: (1) The water is shut off at the pump house. (2)The fireplace takes days to heat the walls enough to build up heat... during this, NO WATER can hit the pipes! You take every drop you use from the pump house, and heat it on the stove. The "used" water only runs on two feet, down the hill.

Education Links and Resources
the home page of
Christine Stibbards
GREETINGS Greetings to all fellow home educators, home schoolers and unschoolers everywhere. I have promised to share the list of web page addresses which I have accumulated whilst I have been home educating.
CATEGORIES
Many thanks to fellow home educators on the UK mailing lists, from whom many of these sites originally came. I have grouped the links together in categories for ease of reference. There should be lots there to interest everyone, regardless of the ages of their children. Please let me know if you find anything offensive. At least one bona fide homeschooling website allowed its ownership of the URL to lapse and it was bought by a porn site. Nasty shock for anyone clicking on a link. I am in the fortunate position being able to spend hours home educating and being on the PC. I would like to share what I have found with those who are not able to spend so much time searching (although I will recommend Copernic as a brilliant free search tool).
LOCAL EDUCATION/HE Although still not as widely accepted as in the United States, home education is a growing phenomenon in the UK.
