Reviewed links to mineralogy and palaeontology
These are "reviewed" links and not "Claus' links to everything on the web." That means, I have visited the sites and found they they carry some useful original information for mineral and fossil collectors, that would be good to have if you are interested in ... whatever. That is obviously frightfully pretentious, but there are already several substantial collections of unreviewed links, some of which I have included. Use those. The criteria for inclusion on this list are roughly:
      a) The site contains original editorial material (e.g., locality descriptions), or
      b) describes or gives access to such information (e.g., publisher's web pages).
Mostly I exclude sites that are collections of links, address and staff directories, compilations of photographs or mere pricelists. Many sites include such material and I have no problems with that, but by itself it does not tell me anything about rocks. Similarly, I do not link to every museum or earth sciences department with a web site, but only to those offering on-line displays. If you need museum web sites, consult the museum directory in the Other information section.

CHAPTER - 1 GEMSTONES : INCEPTION AND GROWTH
From time immemorial, gemstones and precious metals have been a source of attraction for the people. These are the nature’s choicest gifts to humankind. Out of their fabulous beauty, colour and splendour numerous magnificient works of art have been made. The workmen have learned to utilize the possibilities inherent in each type of gemstone. In a clear crystal, we may feel enchanted to behold a reflection of eternal laws. The charm of magnificent colours, sparkling luster and luminous effects bear witness to an interior harmony to which everybody feels attracted. Gemstones, which are found almost in all parts of the world, are not only beautiful and attractive to look at, but are also associated with the delight and grief of people. A stone in itself does not know how it is in line with human nature and human fate, but, however, it remains a gem of imperishable value. People of ancient times attributed to gemstones supernatural powers and associations with stars and tried to use them for conjuring good and evil spirits and demons. Religion and astrology have also associated gemstones with human destiny. The people of modern age may no longer believe in this but would be enchanted by old legends.

APPRAISERS' REGISTRY Welcome to our appraisers' registry. This registry of appraisers is for consumers to use to locate an appraiser. This registry is currently being developed. We did not post an "under construction" sign, but rather are posting submitted appraisers' professional profiles as they are received even though the list will have scant names. We feel that as more and more appraisers take advantage of the registry, it will become more useful. The appraisers are listed by specialty, by state and then alphabetically. Banner listings are either paid advertisements or subscribers to our website. We do not take responsibility for any problems you may have with an appraiser as this is a free listing to provide a public service. We do not have the time or capacity to "police" the appraisers listed.
We will remove a posting if a written complaint is filed. However, if the appraiser wishes to remain listed in the registry, he or she can post a letter of explanation. In such an event, both the client's complaint and appraiser's explanation letters will be posted. If you cannot locate an appraiser and wish to post a special request, you can post such a request by filling out our form.

By Laura Holmes, Debra Wiley says she cringes every time someone asks her, "Are you a good witch or a bad witch?" "I don't walk around asking people, 'Are you a good Christian or a bad Christian?'" says Wiley, a self-proclaimed Wiccan witch from Dover. Maybe if people were better educated about her religion, she says, they would know better. Wiley and her friend, Scarlett Ridgway, a Wiccan witch from Portsmouth, have been "out of the broom closet" for many years. Neither of them hide the fact they are witches, but because of 500 years of persecution in Europe and America, and decades of negative stereotyping, many others are not so public. The possibility of harassment, verbal abuse and, in extreme cases, violence make many witches afraid to take advantage of one of America's most prized possessions — freedom of religion — "all because of misunderstanding," says Rebecca Murphy, a Wiccan witch and licensed pagan minister from Manchester.
