Do you know that even though there are tens of thousands of people doing genealogical research on the Internet, there are hundreds of thousands more who still have never touched a computer? What if the person who knows the very information that you have been surfing the Internet to find is one of THEM? Do you know how to get your queries in front of these
people? The answer is newspaper genealogy columns. Now, with that said do you know the name of the genealogy column that appears in the local newspaper in each one of the areas around the country (and even the world) where you have ancestry? Do you know the address of each of these columnists to which to send your queries and/or announcements? Do you know if any of them have e-mail addresses? You will find this information in our listings.

Ford Genealogy Club Meeting March 14 minutes
There were no members looking for assistance in the 5:00 to 5:30 timeframe. The March meeting was called to order by the president, Karen Krugman at 5:30. The vice president, Diane Oslund reviewed where the newsletters are presently distributed to other genealogy clubs and societies. She stated that there is not much response from the groups that are supposed to be on an exchange program with us. She suggested that if this continues, we stop sending copies to them. As a result of group discussion, it was decided that Diane would treat the future distribution of newsletters on an individual basis at her discretion. Three handouts were distributed, the latest copy of the newsletter, The Rearview; a copy of the microfilm and microfiche records on permanent loan at the LDS center in Westland, MI; and the FGC schedule for the remainder of the year. It was noted that the May meeting's topic, Genealogy Programs used by members, needs someone to discuss Family Tree Maker. Anyone familiar with the program who would like to share their experiences at the May meeting, please contact Diane Oslund diane@dianesgenealogy.com . The April meeting's speaker will review newspapers of Michigan. We will also hold election of officers for the club. The present officers indicated they would be willing to serve a second term, with the exception of the Treasurer, Mark Krugman, who is already serving an extra term. Bob Beiting offered to serve as Treasurer for next year. The present officers are: President, Karen Krugman; Vice-President, Diane Oslund; Secretary, Mike Brautigan; and Treasurer, Mark Krugman. If any other member, other than Bob, is interested in running for office, please forward your name to Diane Oslund before the next meeting.

First Name: Middle: Last: All about ethnic and religious organizations Throughout the United States, there are ethnic and religious organizations that collect information about specific groups of people. For example, you can find organizations that concentrate on Irish, African, or Jewish people in the United States. This topic tells you how ethnic and religious organizations may help you in your research. Photo courtesy of Kimberly Mullin. Normally, ethnic and religious groups have a wealth of material relating to both life in the "old country" as well as life in the United States. You may find information about customs, foods, language, dress, occupations, traditions, migration patterns, as well as history, activities, and influence in the United States. In addition, some ethnic and religious groups will be able to give you information about the clubs and mutual aid societies that people of a particular ethnic background formed when they arrived in the United States. These clubs and mutual aid societies played an important role in the lives of many immigrants helping them preserve their customs and pass on traditions to their children. Many of these societies maintained records that may be of interest to you if one of your ancestors was a member. Finally, some ethnic and religious groups maintain records of historical and genealogical interest. If they don't, they may be able to direct you to archives, societies, libraries, or genealogical groups that do have the information you need. For addresses and more complete information about specific ethnic and religious organizations, see the topic

Croatia was partitioned at the same time for up to 400 years between Austria, Hungary, Venice and Turkey. On Croatian Territory we have Catholics, Moslems, Jews, Orthodox, Greek Catholics and some Protestants. Further, Croatia has a Croatian ethnic minority, a Serbian minority (10%) that migrated to Croatian territory, Hungarians and Italians. An individual with a desire to study the history, culture and people of Croata would out of necessity have to read portions of Austrian, Hungarian, Turkish and Italian history.
