It has a youthful and energetic membership and employs a professional production team for the shows it performs at the Town Hall Theatre at the end of October each year. The Burns Federation
HISTORY AND CONSTITUTION
On 7th March 1885 the bust of Robert Burns was unveiled in Poets' Corner, Westminster, an event which was attended by Burnsians from all over the world. Shortly afterwards three of them, Provost David Mackay and Captain Sneddon of Kilmarnock. and Colin Rae Brown, President of London Burns Club. were strolling along the Thames Embankment and in the course of the conversation Provost Mackay remarked that it would be a good thing to establish a federation of Burns clubs and societies throughout the world. The primary aim of the Federation was to establish that worldwide and all-embracing brotherhood of man which was the highest ideal of the poet himself and this has continued to be its main theme. The world of 1996 is vastly different from that of a century ago. Two world wars and countless lesser crises have provided many setbacks to the aim of universal brotherhood, and yet, tremendous improvements in communications in recent years have made the world a much smaller place. On the one hand, with so many claims on people's time, it is to the credit of the Federation that it has not only endured but continued to expand, when many other loftier and more pretentious organizations have withered and disappeared. Over the years more than a thousand clubs and societies have been affiliated, but at the present time only about a third of them are active. This takes no account of the numerous other societies which every year pay lip-service to the Immortal Memory of the bard but are not members of the Burns Federation. Significantly, more and more of these societies are now coming forward and seeking affiliation, as they realise the importance of integration into the larger Burns movement and the advantages which they can derive from membership. Today, the Federation includes clubs in every continent, from Manitoba to Moscow and Montrose to Melbourne. Moreover, the Federation has played a major role in Burns events all over the world, from the annual conferences staged in Canada and the United States, to the mammoth Burns Suppers in Moscow and Beijing.

in Mayo in the West of Ireland
Ballinrobe is an ideal centre from which to enjoy walking and cycling tours throughout the South West countryside. Maps and brochures on this, and on other activities are available locally. The modern sports complex in Ballinrobe, with its newly equipped gymnasium is yet another feature that caters for visitors to the town. Saint Mary's Choral Society stages a musical performance annually in the Town Hall and several plays by both local and visiting groups are also staged at this venue. The only race course in Mayo is located in Ballinrobe and hosts 5 race meetings a year. Photo: Red Island, near Clonbur Michael O'Sullivan The town is well served with some very fine pubs and restaurants offering cuisine of the highest standard. Ballinrobe is within 90 minutes drive of the Burren in County Clare and Yeats County in Sligo, and only 30 minutes from Westport. The town is within easy reach of Galway and Knock International Airport.

Fishing in Lough Carra
Co Mayo (West of Ireland)
For information on some of the service providers take a look at Fishing/Angling Service Providers Lough Carra is a limestone lake, 4,000 acres in area. It is a shallow lake, its maximum depth is only 60ft (18m). Because the lake is relatively shallow, trout can be caught in all parts of it. Along the west shore of Connors Island and Annies shore you can have good fishing with a southerly or southwesterly wind. North of Castle Island from the Kiltoom shore to Annies shore, with a southwesterly wind, can also be good. Between Castle Island and the Twin islands and all that open water between Derrinrush and Rineen is good fishing water. South of the Twin Islands to Lynch's point is another open water which is also quite good. In fact fish can be caught in any part of the lake from
