From: elsi@ncgr.org
The National Center for Genome Resources (NCGR) would like to announce
our new Web pages regarding the Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications
(ELSI) of biotechnology.
The NCGR URL is: http://ncgr.org./ncgr/ncgr.html
We have made available two resources in particular that focus on human
genetic and Human Genome Project issues. One is an encompassing
bibliography of ELSI related references to provide starting points for
further reading. The other is a series of "Scopes Notes" that provide full text overviews of ELSI topics. We plan on maintaining these pages with current and readable information on aspects of genetic research. We would like to establish links to any relevant sites out there. Please consider linking us to your site. Pass on this information about our site to anyone who would be interested. Remember to visit our pages regularly as we will continue to update it with new ELSI information. Owner CPRI-L (Listserv@kumchttp.mc.ukans.edu) Computerized Pt. records

The Lita Annenberg Hazen Genome Sequencing Center performs high-throughput sequencing of several organisms, including homo sapiens, rice, maize, the flowering plant Arabidopsis thaliana , and the fission yeast S. pombe . There are links to the laboratories of Michael Q. Zhang (computational biology and bioinformatics), Lincoln Stein (development of software for computational biology and genome bioinformatics), and Andrew Neuwald (classification and modelling of protein domains; predicting protein structure and function), the C. elegans , ricegenes, and S. cerevisiae promoter genome databases, and bioinformatics software. There is also information available on courses run at CSHL that provide post- graduate training in genome sequencing, genome informatics, and DNA analysis. Molecular Biology Computational Biology

Ensembl is primarily funded by the Wellcome Trust . Access to all the data produced by the project, and to the software used to analyse and present it, is provided free and without constraints.
Ensembl presents up-to-date sequence data and the best possible automatic annotation for metazoan genomes. Available now are human mouse rat fugu ... C. elegans , and C. briggsae , Others will be added soon.
For an introduction to the Ensembl project, take the Ensembl tour , and then go through a step-by-step worked example which introduces Ensembl's main functions. For more information read these short papers ( Jan 2002 Jan 2003 ), in Nucleic Acids Research.

    Human Genomic Resources
The GSDB at NCGR is a direct outgrowth of the Los Alamos National Laboratory component of GenBank. The original project was first conceived by Walter Goad at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, New Mexico in 1979. From 1982-1992 LANL performed data collection as part of the GenBank contract from NIH/NIGMS. In 1992-1993 LANL performed data collection for NCBI. In 1993 the LANL effort became the Genome Sequence DataBase (GSDB). In August 1994, GSDB moved from LANL to the National Center for Genome Resources in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
