AWACS Modeling and Simulation
The AWACS Modeling and Simulation (AMS) System consists of simulated AWACS Weapon Director (WD) stations, pseudo-pilot stations, a post-exercise display and debrief system, and embedded interactive courseware (ICW). The embedded ICW uses the 3-D modeling capabilities of the simulator system to teach concepts that are difficult for the student to visualize from printed media or classroom lecture. The ICW uses AWACS symbology and audio to teach the meaning of visual and auditory cues, and speech recognition to provide opportunities to practice key communication skills. The following embedded ICW lessons and exercises were developed for the AMS system:
  • Conceptual tutorials which teach dynamic concepts that are particularly difficult for students to understand and for which understanding is improved with the addition of 2-D and 3-D graphical presentations. These include tutorials on aircraft forces, radar fundamentals, FAA airspaces, barometric pressure and altimetry, and communications systems.

    Scientific Overview
Symplectic geometry originated as a mathematical outgrowth of Hamiltonian mechanics and dynamical systems and their applications to the theory of elementary particles, oceanographic and atmospheric sciences, condensed matter, accelerator and plasma physics and other disciplines at the classical and quantum levels. Ideally, a good mathematical model for the very complex systems listed above should describe the global information regarding the phase structure by means of relevant parameters rather than describing the existence of a specific solution of the equations of motion. A suitable mathematical framework, reflecting the complexity of these real world problems was pioneered in the works of Arnold, Gromov, Zehnder (and the whole Bochum school) and Eliashberg.

Sourced from java3d-interest list. The original question asked was: Calling the Triangulator constructor with an argument of 1 (EARS_RANDOM) will produce a different triangulation than that produced by GeometryInfo on its own, so the Triangulator object obviously does do something, but it seems that the default Triangulator (with no arguments to the constructor) just produces the same results as if it hadn't been called at all. The reply posted by Paul Pantera of Sun is: To further expand this, the NormalGenerator and Stripifier only work on indexed triangles. Therefore, no matter what format your data is in, it will be converted to indexed triangles if you call the NormalGenerator or Stripfier. This is hidden from the user. If you send in quads and call the stripfier, you will get triangle strips out, and you won't know that your quads were converted to indexed triangles in the interim. So the answer to your question is yes, you don't need to call the triangulator explicitly (unless you want to specify the earOrder) because it gets called automatically when POLYGON_ARRAY data is used. Does it hurt to call it explicitly? Not much. The triangulator is smart enough to do nothing if the input data is already triangles.

Geometric elements play an important role when analysing images of man made scenes, especially within matching, recontruction and grouping. Due to the uncertainty of geometric elements representing uncertainty, testing spatial relations and estimating parameters of uncertaint elements play are essential tools. The two tutorials cover the main aspects of geometric reasoning under uncertainty, namely geometric reasoning and uncertainty handling.

    FRACTALS AND SCALE
    David G. Green

    Introduction
How long is the coast-line of Great Britain? At first sight this question may seem trivial. Given a map one can sit down with a ruler and soon come up with a value for the length. The problem is that repeating the operation with a larger scale map yields a greater estimate of the length (Fig. 1). If we actually went to the coast and measured them directly, then still greater estimates would result. It turns out that as the scale of measurement decreases the estimated length increases without limit. Thus, if the scale of the (hypothetical) measurements were to be infinitely small, then the estimated length would become infinitely large! Lewis Fry Richardson (quoted in Mandelbrot, 1983) noted this dependence of measured length to the measuring scale used. In discussing measurement, scale can be characterized in terms of a measuring stick of a particular length: the finer the scale, the shorter the stick. Thus at any particular scale, we can think of a curve as being represented by a sequence of sticks (Fig. 1), all of the appropriate length, joined end-to-end. Clearly, any feature shorter than the stick will vanish from a map constructed in this way. Of course, no one actually makes maps by laying sticks on the ground, but the stick analogy reflects the sorts of distortions that are inevitably produced by the limited resolution of aerial photographs, by the length of survey transects, or by the thickness of the pens used in drafting. There is an analogy here, too, with the accuracy or frequency with which any sort of biological measurements are made.

  • Convex Hulls and Mid-Points Plotting the Rest of the Curve Points Other Than the Mid-Point Recursion with Depth ... Example of Potential Use
  • Introduction
    Convex Hulls and Mid-Points
To describe the curve, the user places four points called control points. The curve passes through the first and fourth control points. The second and third control points act as magnets for the curve. The curve never actually passes through these points. Now we find a single point on the curve using these four control points. First, we draw the convex hull of the curve by connecting the control points in the order they were drawn. Find the midpoint of each line segment that we drew. Connect these points to form a new hull. Find the midpoint of each of these new line segments. Connect these two points. Finally, find the midpoint. This is the point found at the middle of the curve. The last line used here is a tangent to the point found on the Bezier curve. This tangent can be used to calculate a stroke for the final curve. As seen in the examples below, I've added perpendicular lines to each point found in the curve. If you imagine connecting all of the line endpoints by traversing them in a clockwise or counter-clockwise order, you can see that a thicker (or stroked) version of the skeleton Bezier will result.
