Title II / TQ Efforts
Georgia’s P-16 Initiative created a Plan for Having a Qualified Teacher in Every Public School Classroom by 2006. This plan addresses two goals:
Objective 1: Improve the quality of teaching in Georgia through comprehensive and integrative changes in teacher recruitment, teacher preparation, teacher standards, teacher professional development, and teacher retention.
Objective 2: Improve student achievement in Georgia’s schools through improving the quality of teaching.
To accomplish these goals, specific objectives have been developed. Those objectives include:
  • Plans to Reduce Shortage and Turn-Over of Qualified Teachers
Balance teacher supply and demand in all subject fields, grade levels, and geographic regions of the state. Decrease teacher attrition during the first three years of teaching.

Are you preparing? How?
YOUR TURN How concerned are you about the possibility of terorrists attacks on the U.S.? Extremely concerned Very concerned. Enough to buy duct tape. A little concerned. Not at all concerned. Total Votes This survey is not a scientific sampling and does not reflect the opinion of the general public, but only of those who choose to participate. Results from Thursday As the nation hangs in code orange limbo, school leaders are reviewing plans for how to respond to a terrorist attack that could come in the form of contaminated food, snipers on rooftops or a bomb. All while keeping things calm and normal in the classroom. School officials say their response to an upgrade to code red would depend on the circumstances. "Until we know what's going on, we can't say how we'll respond," said Mark Kissel, chief of the Cherokee school district's police department. "Right now we are flexible enough to respond to whatever happens."
