T he Strait of Gibraltar links the North Atlantic Ocean with the Mediterranean Sea. The Strait runs between the southern coast of Spain and the northern coast of Morocco. Gibraltar, a territory of the United Kingdom, is located off the south coast of Spain on the Mediterranean side of the strait. The famous Rock of Gibraltar is located here, rising 426 meters (1400 feet) above sea level. The Gibraltar peninsula has long been a strategic military site and a point of contention between Britain and Spain.

Gibraltar is the thin peninsula extending from the south coast of Spain on the Mediterranean side of the strait. The Gibraltar peninsula and Spain delineate Gibraltar Bay. Along the Atlantic coast of Spain is the city of Cadiz with the mouth of the Guadalquivir River visible to the north.

The Late Middle Palaeolithic in North Africa and Iberian Upper Palaeolithic
Dr. Abdeljalil Bouzouggar, Institut National des Sciences de l'Archéologie et du Patrimoine (INSAP), Avenue John Kennedy- 10 000 Rabat- Morocco. It appears that in North Africa researchers are interested in the Aterian evolution rather than in its "extinction"! There are few radiometric dates of the Aterian Culture in North Africa. According to conventional radiocarbon dating, the earliest dates of its industry are around 40 ka B.P. and the latest are around 20 ka B.P. But usually only the C dating technique was used. In Morocco around 24-22 ka B.P, Late Aterian palaeoclimatic, environmental and behaviour data can provide a framework of its populations activities. Several changes arose during the Late Aterian which are related to the industry and dietary behaviours. At this time, in Iberia, a possible technological change took place. North Africa, and especially Morocco, is considered as a possible route into Iberia via the Strait.
