People who are over stressed and unhappy do not work effectively or efficiently. Money is wasted through inflexibility, absenteeism, and mistakes. Most people approach stress management through rational use of time management. This only works up to a point; one may know what one should do but it is a totally different thing to make the internal changes necessary to feel and behave in a more effective way. Motivation is an internal process that requires the setting of personal goals and then working towards them in a confident way. By teaching self hypnosis, confidence building and goal setting we teach people to become to become the master rather than the victim of their emotions. Our workshop approach allows for group teaching and also individual participation so that individuals develop skills which will, if used regularly, enable them to cope with increasing stress and yet still function comfortably at their optimum level of performance.     Tracking New Year's Goals

    1. We reserve the first family home evening of the year for setting goals. It helps to teach the importance of prayer in selecting goals. By taking time to pray and ponder about our goals, we are able to focus on what will most benefit our family. Then we have a short lesson on the importance of goals, types of goals, how to choose a goal by focusing on what is realistic and most important, and how to achieve goals. 2. We list our goals on a poster. 3. We display our posters in a prominent area. After we finish the posters, we take turns showing them to each other. Then we hang the posters in a prominent place in our rooms. The posted goals are a daily visual reminder of what we plan to achieve. As we reach our goals, we cross them off. The first year we made goal posters, we were surprised when we reached all our goals. Each December we review the goals we have accomplished for that year and save the posters in our books of remembrance. My husband and I began this goal-setting tradition during our first year of marriage. When we saw the successful results of our efforts, we decided to continue the tradition, especially when children came into our home.

    According to Richard H. Cox, "Sport Psychology is a science in which the principles of psychology are applied in a sport setting."
    What this means is, sport psychologists help athletes train their mind to not only improve athletic performance, but also improve other areas of their lives. By using goal setting, imagery, attentional focus strategies, and relaxation techniques, sport psychology helps prepare the athlete mentally for competition.     So if goal-setting and resolutions are "essentially" (notice I say essentially) useless, then what really does work in helping you get what you want in life?
    I call it Dream-setting. In other words, one that doesn't have limits built in by the left-brain which most goal-setting programs espouse.
    The real issue is we're way too driven, too skewed in one direction. We've lost the essence of why we're here and forgotten that what makes us happy is when we're truly connected with who we are.
    In Chinese energy terms it's called Yin and Yang. Yin is lighter, "female", creative energy - an energy of acceptance. "Yang" means aggressive, striving, excess, "work harder" energy.
    Yes, we need both, but our world is over focused on "Yang" energy, over-striving, over-achieving, getting there fast, getting more done, and what we're aching to feel can't be strived for. Why? Because the harder you strive, the more the very thing you're striving for eludes you.
