Writer's Solution
III. Pedagogical Questions Q. We have good word processing software already. What will Writer's Solution allow me to do that I can't do already?
A. It allows you to teach writing in a media-rich environment that motivates the most reluctant writer. It follows the sound pedagogy of the writing process, but the technology allows that process to be fully recursive. The program also allows you to customize instruction student by student, or class by class. Writer's Solution is much more than a word processor. In fact, it isn't a word processor. It's a tutorial with complete writing instruction and activities.
Q. We have a videodisc player. Can I use just that part of the Writer's Solution? A. The Writers at Work videodisc is bar coded so that you can play the entire disc, pull out six-minute excerpts on specific writing modes, or access segments that discuss certain details like finding ideas, analyzing audience, or revising. So you can use the videodisc/videotape for numerous purposes: to introduce a writing mode, to let students hear a writer talk about his or her ways to overcome writing problems, or to motivate students to respond in writing. It can serve these purposes no matter what other components or texts you use to teach writing.

LESSON PLANS
Lesson Plans: Strong, concise statements of objectives are always an essential component of any lesson plan. Once the objectives have been determined, the lesson and unit plan design follows. New teachers should develop thorough lesson plans, in part to ensure that important details and concerns have not been over looked, but also because it provides a disciplined and structured way to think about the art of teaching.
...In general, a good lesson plan will contain variations of the following items: *Title and brief introduction of the concepts to be addressed. *Goal(s) or the relationship of the lesson to the purposes of the curricular goals. *Rationale… why are the students learning this. *Instructional Objectives, and *Resources… all relevant vocabulary and definitions, books, audio visual aids, articles.

1. Please be sure to check that the SOL stated in the lesson is actually carried out in the plan. Standards that are stated must match what is in the context of the plan. Anyone reading these lessons should be able to discern a clear connection. If this is not the case, the plan should be revised by the author and resubmitted. Check the Standards of Learning guidelines for accuracy. 2. Grammar and mechanics reflect the professionalism of the author. A typo is one thing, but grammatical errors are not acceptable. An author should have a colleague proof read his/her lesson plan for accuracy and completeness. These lessons reflect not only the author, but educators as a whole.

Internet Postings - URL's Summary of Skills Implemented throughout the Unit Integrating Shakespearean Tragedy with the Internet is an interdisciplinary unit that challenges students to use William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet as a springboard to implement the following skills: basic skills, communication, inquiry, problem solving, synthesis, and critical thinking. Inquiry is applied when students conduct research on the historical aspects relating to the play: Pyramus and Thisbe, the Elizabethan Period, William Shakespeare, the Globe Theater, and the Hatfield-McCoy parallel. Inquiry is also utilized during the segment of the unit in which students are required to read the text, complete quizzes at Funbrain.com, and find examples of various themes and other literary devices utilized by Shakespeare throughout the play. The pieces of information extracted during the inquiry segment become building blocks for students to later write their essays and compose their Hyperstudio presentations.
