Jesus Christ, St. George, Kurbinovo The Republic of Macedonia is a small country situated in the southern part of Balkan Peninsula. It's a natural bridge between east and west, north and south. The majority of the population is the Macedonians, while the most numerous among the minorities are the Albanians, Turks and Serbs. The Republic of Macedonia abounds in the natural beauties and rarities. Many have named it "The Pearl of the Balkans". The numerous mountains, forests, rivers and lakes present a great tourist attraction. The country is reach in water resources. That is why it is often called "The Land of Lakes" because of the many tectonic, glacial and man-made lakes. There are about fifty large and small lakes, the most significant ones: the lakes of Ohrid, Prespa and Doyran. The rivers form three basins, the largest one - the Vardar River. General Education Appendix
Applies only to General Catalog years 1988-89 through 1998-99
The following is the General Education program for students enrolled under 1998-1999 or earlier catalogs. (See the appropriate catalog for greater detail.)
The 1998-1999 General Education Program requires students to complete a minimum of 51 semester units. This includes 18 units minimum in CORE, 27 units minimum in BREADTH, and 9 upper-division units minimum, of which 6 units are in CAPSTONE. The 9 upper-division units can be taken no sooner than the term in which 60 units of coursework are completed. Also, 9 units must be taken in residence at California State University, Fresno. Because the goal of General Education is to provide a solid foundation with a broad scope and the goal of the major is to provide depth in a specific discipline or program, the following stipulations apply:
  • A CORE course also may be applied to a student's major requirement unless the department specifically prohibits it.
  • A maximum of two General Education courses from one department or program may be applied to satisfy BREADTH requirements. (However, a department or program may prohibit any General BREADTH Education course from simultaneously satisfying its own departmental or programmatic requirements.)

The Municipality of Petra is situated to the northwest part of the island. It is consisted of the villages of Petra , of Lafiona , of Skoutaro , of Stypsi , of Ypsilometopo and of the summer resorts of Anaxos and Petri . This Municipality is 55 kilometres from Mytilini. Petra is a seaside village built in the middle of a green plain, which according to tradition, it was the Achilles' anchorage during the war of Troy. Before we take down the hill, on our way to Petra, we have the chance to admire the view over the village facing the open sea, decorated by the wide beach, the rich vegetation, the cultivations of the villagers and the chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the " Glykofilousa ", situated on the top of a high rock in the middle of the village. The port During the last years, the village of Petra has been developed in a modern summer resort. In the summer, a lot of tourists visit this place, which is the "centre of amusement" with a lot of bars, taverns and restaurants. In the village of Petra, the visitor will find also a branch of the Greek Organism of Telecommunications, banks, a public clinic, a veterinary, cars and bicycles to let. Just opposite the beach of Petra there are three isolated islands. The biggest of them is called the island of St George. Caiques and fish boats that start from the port of Petra make regular trips to those islands. The visitor has the possibility to organize excursions and to spend the night in the open air. In Petra he will have his portrait made. He can either make sports or go for shopping.

The concept of the garden devoted entirely to roses is throught of as essentially English, and greatly treasured as such, but it actually originated in France in the nineteenth century.
