You are looking for hotels in Africa, one of our top-level locations. To help you find a hotel, we have divided Africa into 50 countries - from Algeria to Zimbabwe. To locate your hotel, just click on one of the text links above or use the pull down menu, above and to the right. As you narrow down the location you get nearer to the hotel listings. Optionally, there is a clickable map of Africa, available from the menu, above and to the right - just click the button. Tip regarding the quick search (on the left): fill in the location only (not the dates) to search for other locations in this hotel directory. Filling in the dates causes an availability search which takes a little longer and therefore wastes time if that's not what you need.
Africa Washed by the warm Mediterranean Sea to the north and swept by Antarctic winds at its southern tip, Africa is a continent with many faces. North of the Sahara the climate is hot and dry, the greenery confined to river banks and oases, and the culture is mainly Arabic with French influence still remaining.

West Africa: Tension rises between the Gambia and Guinea Bissau
Days after Kumba Iala, President of Guinea Bissau, declared that his country would “crush” The Gambia, his counterpart in Banjul, President Yahya Jammeh, has expressed his concern, raising tensions between the two countries in western Africa.
Accusing The Gambia of supporting opposition elements inside Guinea Bissau and of fomenting instability in the country, President Kumba Iala declared on 11th June that his country would “crush” The Gambia, a country set inside Guinea Bissau’s northern neighbour, Senegal.
Banjul has replied, President Yahya Jammeh declaring that “it is not worth replying to these badly intentioned, slanderous and unfounded accusations”.
The Gambian Foreign Ministry has already issued declarations describing Kumba Iala’s statements and accusations as “false, unfounded, wrong and totally against the spirit of good neighbourly relations”, calling on Kumba Iala to withdraw his accusations and threat of war, a withdrawal which has not to date been made.

Tailoring solutions to fit local customs For outside help to be effective, it must not trample cultural sensitivities Friday, March 23, 2001 By TOM PAULSON
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER ANDAHA, Nigeria The village was hot and steamy, the clouds thick with the threat of rain, as Abel Eigege stopped to check up on water safety and disease eradication programs. More than half of the people in the village are infected with the parasite schistosoma, the cause of so-called snail fever. Most contracted the disease as children, picking up the parasite as they swam or bathed in water with infected snails. Eigege sadly held up a child's urine sample, noting the blood. A village health care worker with the Carter Center's Global 2000 program uses a makeshift yardstick to estimate the weight of a boy in Andaha, Nigeria, so a proper dose of praziquantel can be dispensed to treat snail fever. Mike Urban / Seattle Post-Intelligencer Click for larger photo "The disease disables and makes them more susceptible to other disease, like malaria," he said. Working with local volunteers, Eigege dispensed tablets of praziquantel to the infected using a yardstick he designed to help villagers match height to body weight. "He's about 1 1/2 tablets tall," Eigege said as he held the stick up to one young boy.
